I've seen two radios I like and I would like your opinions. The first is the CRT 7900 and the reviews say it stays on frequency and never mentions heat. The second is the CRT ss 9900 and a few have said the frequency drifts and it gets very hot. So you can see my dilemma so can I have your valuable opinions as I want to buy one. Thank you

Not on your list is the popular 6900n, I have mine a few weeks and I know many others who have them and even keep them after an upgrade and still drop down to the 6900n every now n then.

The problem is we have too much choice and not enough money. Ive seen videos of the6900n and the reviews say their an excellent little radio. Then after I choose a radio it's the Ariel and power supply. Thanks for the replies guys

I've had my CRT-SS9900 for a couple of years and I've never had any problems with it. It has never drifted off frequency and the only time it ever got hot was when I used it in FM mode on full power for about 20 minutes a couple of weeks ago. In SSB mode it just gets slightly warm after a while. I think some of the early versions did have problems but mine works perfectly.

I've got a 7900. Nice rig, no performance issues, clear display. There isn't much to choose between the 6900/7900/9900 except for the high power of the 9900. Amps are cheap enough that I'd always use one personally with any of those rigs rather than (a) risk the output stage and (b) risk producing splatter by driving the rig hard.

I forgot to mention....if you get a CRT-SS9900 you will need a 15 amp (constant) or higher power supply as its a powerful radio......according to the instructions it draws "12 amps with modulation" so a standard 1980s style won't be enough as most of them can only provide 5 - 7 amps. I use a 30 amp supply but anything over 15 amps should be fine.

Yes, that will be great. I have the QJE 30 amp version which is almost identical except for the dials.....mine has a digital readout of volts and current.

A lot of people have said to spend a decent amount on the power supply and get a name brand. I have to go by your recormendations because I haven't bought any cb equipment since the 80s So much has changed and so many new brands it's a buyer's paradise. Thanks for your advice it really is appreciated.

Hi. Master Virus.
Check out all 3 websites for Kcb/Radioworld/Nevada. I've used all 3 over the last 20/30yrs. Kcb is best for CB gear. Nevada for Ham gear. Radioworld in between. Good luck. 73's Mike.
