|  so i made my first contact today was local to me in stoke but i still did it, i was abit nervous and stumbling my words.... but iv got the bug bad!!! Now how do i start a conversation with some one like on channel 19 you would say (i think is right) 1 9 for a rodger.... What would you say on another channel ?? If you where 1 of the 2 contacts from meir in stoke this morning thanks for the help   | |

| Well done Matt , sounds like your doing ok , you could join an existing conversation on a frequency by calling "break" on the Muppets or "QSK" on sideband if you have access . Asking for a radio check is also a good way to start a conversation. It gets easier as you get more qso's under your belt, oh and the bug only gets worse  | |

| Cheers guys yeah i was buzzing, and couldnt wait to get another call. I have used the radio check on both occasions to start a conversation and managed to keep one going for around a minute XD but then ran out of things to say to keep it going hahaha can't wait to go out again!
The distance for my first call was 3.5 miles as the crow flies and was happy with that as a start in the really built up area next to a main railway station whether that has any difference or not. I do need more confidence still though just to get a conversation started. But yes i am loving it. I am on uk40 only for now so can't go side band i can rememebr when i had my scanner 10years ago cb was booming dont hear much at all since i had one.
