Can anybody tell me if the idea of a full wave length antenna (about 77" if I've done my calcs right) would be of help on 2m or indeed if a full wavelength antenna (about 25.2") would help on 70cm?

Hello Tom,
A full wave antenna will have an undesirable radiation pattern. Look at making 1/4, 1/2 or 5/8 wave designs.
You can download some antenna modelling software to assist you or use existing and proven models of which there are many available on the net.
73's Gary.

Hi Gary, very remiss of me - thought I had replied - thank you for the info and can understand the comments on full wavelength. Just getting an antenna analyzer so hope to be able to get a better idea of whether I am near the mark with my own designs using tested formulas etc. Thanks again.. Tom

You're very welcome Tom, no worries.
I recently acquired a "Nano VNA" from ebay for £30 pounds. It might be worth checking out if you haven't already ordered your analyzer.
