What am i doing wrong? i'm confused. people are requesting callsigns after me and receiving them straight away. someone please help.

Don't worry, you are doing nothing wrong. Gary issues the call-signs and will get around to you. It will probably be first thing tomorrow. Gary is a very busy chap and is juggling his admin duties with his full time job.
