I hade a very interesting QSO a little earlier I thought I would mention as I was thoroughly impressed with the chaps ingenuity, it turns out he was broadcasting remotely from a different location. After making a call on T5 I answered a call to a chap called Tim, Oscar Pappa 141, it was a little brief with the propagation being so sporadic at the moment but I managed to pick up some interesting details before we lost contact one again. He was transmitting from Bristol with a President Jackson and Antron 99 but was using it remotely via a tablet from Glosuster I believe it was he said, unfortunately, we lost contact again before I could get further information but this is the first time I have heard anything like this on the 11m band myself and felt others may find it interesting too or maybe have made contact with the station themselves.

Its a common thing with ham stuff, Icom supply remote operating software with some of their high end radio's. But for the guy to be doing it with a CB it must be homebrew, well done him.

It seems Tim 26OP141 is a well known 11m DXer. Looks like he's climbed Welsh mountains and everything in-between for CB DX and why not.
Yeah, remote operation is not a new thing, Hams have been doing it for years as Dave has mentioned.
I can see why people do it but it's all a little too digital 'cheating' nowadays for my liking. Why work with what you've got, local QRM, antenna restrictions etc. just 'log on' and you can do anything. (Others will argue that this is a favourable thing, that's great if it works for you......just not for me thanks.)
Heck, there's radios with an Ethernet LAN connection right there on the back of the radio!
Horses for courses I suppose.
When my Ham mate telephones me I always shout his callsign and give him a 5/9 report.....still makes him laugh to this day
All the best, Victor

Alternatively why be denied enjoyment of the hobby when you've S9 of QRM and there's solutions available just because some people get all uppity about remote operating? It's not like some of the Yanks have been doing this last week and operating remotely via a country on the other side of the planet.
It's as an invalid a claim as those who bleat on about data modes and how bad they are forgetting that their beloved CW is in fact itself a data mode. "Computers have no place in radio" unless it happens to be the computer doing all the control side of everything and the DSP etc inside the radio they're using.

I can't see why someone having a difference of opinion would deny anybody anything, or at least it shouldn't.
It's good that we're different and have different perspectives, it's what makes us unique individuals. Sharing our perspectives shouldn't cause negativity whatsoever.
On the same vein though, me giving my Ham friend a radio report over a mobile phone is no less invalid. The only difference with such utilised technology on radio bands is you don't know who's going to pick up the 'phone'
Again, just my opinion with no malice intended.

Personally, I cant wait to get the computer attatched to the radio, I hear the digital modes travel further and are better than voice modes when the skip isn't so great. Looking to the future, I would like to set up a portable station and set up up for digital modes in addition to voice for different possible situations but I can relate to what Victor is saying I sometimes use the app Zello on my phone, some guys local to me have bought the little radios for it but I see them as little more than an Android device as it's an app on my phone that works over the Net and nothing more to me. The thing that initially got me interested in radio again was as a form of emergency communication, if the power goes down for instance and if the power goes so does the internet, so if you rely on it in any way for your radio communication it becomes redundant.

It's always good to explore options and all adds to the interest
The emergency comms point comes up a lot nowadays and I suppose because people have seen it in action with disaster events around the world.
I remember the Little Barford power cut not long ago...what a 'disaster', losing power on a Friday afternoon! My daughters were visiting and left confused that they had no phone signal, I explained, they retorted with how their batteries were fully charged on their mobiles....I explained the 'cellular' network, they looked on confused.... One of them popped up with the idea of connecting to the internet and make a WhatsApp call until I explained how that wouldn't work. They still flipping tried though!
Yeah, most of us are useless in a mini crisis, let alone a disaster. Luckily it's a rarity.
You keep doing what makes you happy Alan and enjoy doing it. If someone else doesn't 'get it', it really doesn't matter
All the best, Victor

There's more 11m ops out there operating remote than you know! some are more than happy to mention when in qso but there are a small minority that keep it under wraps.
Either way if it mean you enjoy the hobby then why not utilize this tool.
