Hello Lewis, a warm welcome to the forum and to the radio hobby.
There really isn't many do's and dont's but perhaps you could give us a little more information about what you are interested in knowing. If it's on air operating then having a good listen is always a good idea. If it's technical then a post in the relevant section of the forum with specific questions is the way to go. You would be very unlikely to upset anyone, we all had to start somewhere.
