The French seem to have takin over from the Italians as thats mostly what i hear now. Today was mostly dead .I put up a multi band efhw today which i was given from a pal and had a listen to the ham bands pipe and slippers on 80 mtr band and slagging off new foundation operators .Everybody has to learn the ropes something these seasoned hams forget .

Same here Saltire, then any skip is too fluttery to work anything. Ooh, we could start a whole new thread on bemoaning 'new licence holders' I heard it all when they handed 'Part B' licence holders HF privilages and dropped Morse requirements. It's happening again because of online exams, "they have no practical experience" arguments ensue....of course they have no 'practical' experience, they're flipping new!?!
Anyway, back on topic. (I'm the worst for doing that )
Hope you get some good radio conditions for Sunday John.

Was trying to hook up with Alan Pilot just now on EU31 USB (good use of chatbox). I could hear what sounded like 163 CT 260 on the kiwiSDR but not on my rig sadly. There was like an Irish religious thing drifting in & out - a bit annoying and I'm sure not what CB is for! I put out some CQ DX's but got nothing back. Maybe later on...?

ComReg Ireland WPAS, (Wireless Public Address System), for transmission of religious programmes to housebound parishioners.
They started using it more with Covid. 27MHz is part of their licensing.

No worries guys. The Irish church have used CB for so long that they made it part of the licensing regs
Usually gets picked up by the Scandiwegian countries but sometimes here on short hop skip.
Hope the conditions are good for you today John
I'm taking a day off after a headful of Ham band "CQ Competition" rattling through my speakers!

What have I let myself in for?
My antenna is coming along nicely, and I have cleared a spot for it in the attic. The DX is really good since mid morning, but why do the Italians hog 555 for long periods, having conversations without QSY to somewhere else - it will be impossible for me to call CQ on 555 with that sort of carry-on.
Also, so many Italians call CQ once or twice and then spend a whole 30 seconds whistling into the mic.
I remember back in the 70s when I started out on CB, talking regularly to truckers and SUV drivers in California, no kidding. Sometimes even American hams would drop into the CB channels for a civilized chat. All very courteous and ordered. This whole continental DX is a shambles. It's spoiled by disorderly conduct.
I'm wondering if there's a secondary calling channel on that band?

The whole DX band is wide open right now, 16:00 BST. I've just heard a station in Germany working the States.

It wasn't like talking John, it was there chanting that you could hear like when they call them to pray, all I get now is the local cash & carry which is in half in broken English and half another Language sounds Eastern Euro, I know it's the cash & carry cos they say the products in English and swear in English LOL, or the local schools I hear now and then at weekends its kids playing on PMR ,if I want to be put to sleep acationally on 2m theres a couple of old boys discussing there ailments and allotment tips on there other than that my little handheld sits on top of the bookcase in the front room or my 5year old grandaughter ( one of three grandkids I've got) picks it up and pretends she's talking to someone lol, heard yesterday that some was hearing Stateside stuff coming through on 10m /11m but very faint .
