I switched my HF rig on last Sunday checking through 20m and 40m and all I could hear was "Contest" "Contest" on the bands, turning to T5, which was really busy, the first thing I heard, again, was "Contest".(all be it a different contest I would imagine) I hit a memory button and leaving the radio (SS9900) on 26.285 and no sooner had I sat down than I heard a station calling C.Q. to which I replied agreeing to QSY to 26.295 we made contact. The station was a chap called John, 30FT01 on the Southern coast of Spain within five miles of where you cross for Gibraltar at LaLinea, what really stood out to me was he was using a homebrew dipole.
We managed a few overs before the propagation dropped out and he was gone, I think he was as pleased as I was to make the contact this late into the year and once again the benefit of giving 26.285 a try stands out to me.
Hello Alan,
Great to hear you are making contacts down there. i have had some great contacts from working around there. Try having a listen on 26.420 (USB) for the Charlie Oscars ( Canadian Outlaws). Always some good contacts into 9 and 2 div.
I saw you mention 26.420 before and it is now one of the frequencies I have stored so the touch of a button takes me through the calling frequencies on the various bands so I can see if there's any action on them or put a couple of calls out myself. I have made some Stateside copies and a good one into Canada on HF but I am yet to hear anything on 11m from across the pond.

With all these sporadic long distance and good copies we've been hearing in the pass couple of weeks, I just was watching the weather report on TV and wondered if this was anything to do with it and will get better cos of it , the weather girl siad her friend in Norway had sent her a video of the Aurora Boriola they've been getting and it's been the strongest one they've had for a long time then as she was giving the weather report she said parts of Northern Scotland might be getting them too tonight, I'm not a expert on these things I just wondered.

Never see anything like that Glenn I wish I could , what with living inner city in London we dont even see the stars in the sky with all the light pollution from buildings and street lamps and the like, I know in the North of Scotland gets it sometimes I dont know if it's as good as you guys get in your part of the world but it's looks a beautiful experience to see.

Very quiet on 27.555 here in Finland, location for next few weeks is Levi, north Finland, -6 here and plenty of snow, and the Northern lights might give us a show later, day light long gone now, USB has been good for long range contacts early evening and during the night,
Take care

You are a stronger man than me, Glenn. I don't think I could cope with the weather in Finland. It is too dark and cold for me, here in Britain in winter.

We had +7C and beautiful clear sky above the clouds that sit in the Lake Zurich valley this time of year. Was out having a short 8km hike at 1,200m - 1,500m and it was amazing...

Fantastic scenery, Ian.
I didn't both going out with the radio. Miserable weather here in the Peak District.,5c and thick fog hanging on the hills with persistent drizzle. Had the lights on, in the house by early afternoon.

Australia and S. Africa can be heard in Zurich (15 div) right now. I don't have the equipment or power, but can hear some QSO's up between a ZH operator and 43 & 44 divs on kiwiSDR

I don't understand what "15 div" means. I see some references to it now and then.

Each country has a Division. England is 26. Ireland is 29 (where you are?) Switzerland is 15
Here is a good list https://www.rcqsl.com/dx-divisions-list.php but you can also see it on this site under the CT Directory link
