| Hi All
Sorry to be asking such a newbie question but.......
I am setting up a homebase using a Sigma Venom 1/2 wave High Gain Silver Rod antenna.
Prior to attaching the coax I decided to test it with an ohm meter by placing one probe on the antenna itself and the other on the mounting bracket and got a 0 ohms resistance reading - I was expecting to get an open circuit reading but I may very well be incorrect in that assumption. Is this correct or do I have a faulty antenna? I know this is a newbie question but I am very new to this.
Many thanks for your help. Toby

| Hi. Toby.
Only just seen ur post bin in Shack all pm/eve. All purchased Ant's will read DC ground it's to protect Rig's etc. from Lightening and Static. It's perfectly normal but connect a swr Meter between the Rig & Antenna to try & get it down to 1.2/3-1 by adjusting Antenna There's a couple of good nets out ur way on Weds from 1330 to 1600 on FM 27 called Homesteaders & on Sat eve from 2030 to 2300ish on FM 30 called SW net. Good friendly bunch for help & advice. Good luck / DX 73's Mike p.s. I'm usually on Weds.

| Got the antenna set up this morning. With a little adjustment the swr is 1.2-1 on channel 40 and the meter needle hardly moves on channel 1 so I would guesstimate 1.05-1 on channel 1.
Sadly I have to take the antenna down when not in use because of one person who lives in our road who likes to make their neighbours lives as miserable as they can and report anything they can to the council /police/fire service etc. So I have it on a tripod stand so I can easily lay it flat. That way when the council turn up to check the complaint (there will be a complaint for certain!) out I can show them it is not permanent.
