Subject: Buyers Remorse feel I need a SSB radio Mon Nov 02, 2020 1:28 pm
Hello et All
I have been playing around on the PMR Freq with a handheld and CRT Space U for a while and have been impressed. so decided to have a go on 11m, purchased the CRT ONE N (should have done some more research IE multimode does not mean all modes ) And you guesses it locally completely dead, checked the local NETS and everything appears to be on SSB.
So size is a real problem for me as I need to tidy any equipment away so looking for the smallest radio, can be export or HF currently looking at CRT SS 9900 but if there is something smaller with the same capabilities?
Thanks ArA

That 9900 will.be about the smallest multitude radio you will get ,all multimode radios needs to be bigger because its obvious that they need more components in side to work hence the casing being bigger ,plus multimode can get a little hot when used especially these new ones because they run more power even the newer little none SSB ones can run hot/warm ie like the CRT one because of size , unlike the older radios of the 80s which all where alot bigger so ran cooler, the only other newer multimode radio I can think of that's of that's on the smallish side is the new President Mc Kinley.

Thanks Nubster, Well had a look at the Mc Kinley and agree it is comparable in size.
In the end went for the CRT SS 9900 for the only reason it can do 10m and 12m (I am currently studying for my foundation licence) so gives me some options later.

Nice one mate , as long as your happy ,be careful those 9900 can get hot, very hot sometimes especially on FM but its normal, excuse the ignorance ,I'm not that much in to newer radios but I thought that the Mc Kinley when open up could do 11m/10m/12m or have I got that wrong ,I'm more old school radios of the 70s /80s , good luck on the Foundation.

I bought the CRT 6900N for this reason as can tune it for muppets and has a number of bands for USB and LSB and just use handheld for HAM and PMR.
