Subject: Foundation Licence - PASSED! Mon Nov 09, 2020 4:00 pm
I've been toing and froing about starting my adventure in amateur radio. The new syllabus Foundation study book has been in my drawer for months. I took the plunge and booked my exam on 5th October, thinking to myself - "this will motivate me to get reading". Then as usual, life gets in the way, and studying my Foundation book is put on the back burner. Sh!t ... My exam is due Mon 2nd Nov. Today is 29th Oct. Next few days - binge watch Essex Ham Fast Track. Took my exam on Monday 2nd @ 3.30pm - 20 mins later - result 25/26. My shiny certificate landed following Friday 6th. Callsign issued M7BGI
To any other CT members considering taking the Foundation Licence - just do it - It really isn't difficult at all.
Now to decide on my radio - I'm not looking for a base station, wanting to go portable.
Seriously looking at Yaesu FT-818ND. Lets see what the future holds

Congratulations.
However, the ft-818 is a really old design....and very QRP. I don't know about your budget, and maybe you're a Yaesu fan, but if you want to do portable HF/VHF/UHF, have a real long hard look at the iCom IC-705.
A mate has just bought one, and it's really like a mini, all band, 7300. It has all the stuff built in you might end up adding to the Yaesu when you get serious, a fantastic spectrum scope, and way better power management.
Just mentioning options, even if you decide against...
