My first hf set was the ft450d that was a good set. I only changed it for the ft991a as that had vhf/uhf as well.

Have been looking at the 450d, does it go down to 10watts or do people break the rule.

I think it went down as far as 5w. Also the built-in tuner worked well on the 450d better than this 991a. The guy (a m8 of my nephew) who bought it off me run's it with a 5/8 silver-rod and it works quite well.
