I didn't actually give any advice but it just looked like you didn't want to take any advice. I was just being sarcastic with the ft991a comment. Perhaps is you gave a budget then people might point you in the right direction. 73s Bye.

$12, 199 & they still want that 95 cents Still at least the postage is free.
When I started almost every City & a lot of towns had a shop selling old WD radios & parts for a few pounds at the most. And at least one of the valves from a TV could make a half reasonable transmitter & old TV's were free.

Have a look at RAIBC.. Sorry, I cannot post links, being a new member here.
I knew someone they helped, when I was licenced & when the test system was very different to today. So it's good to see they still exist.

The services include the recording and distribution of audio literature for radio amateurs and listeners. This includes magazines such as Radcom and Practical Wireless. In addition manuals for various radios are available in audio format along with the Foundation, Intermediate and Advance license course materials. We also loan transceivers and receivers to qualifying members. Where necessary these are adapted to suit their needs, for example by the use of voice chips.

They do not just help people pass their exams, they can also help with audio copies of magazines, help with setting up equipment. Loaning equipment with built in audio chips & other things.

Monty,
With your budget and knowledge of sight issues, it may be worth reviewing / considering the Yaesu FTDX 10. It is in your price range, has a decent configurable screen but best of all it has a display output and Keyboard and Mouse inputs for control.
Have a look at this little video, one of many showing some of it's capabilities.

Best of luck on your search.
