Hi Chris,
Obviously one has turned up for sale in your price bracket
Bit of a 'stab in the dark' asking on the forum though mate, reliant on those members that have owned or know someone that owns one. Best bet would be to take a look at the eHam reviews if anything. Link below if it helps:-

Otherwise people are going to give you the same recommendations that they've given before.
Keep enjoying that Essex Ham course and enjoy shopping around for that first radio. You'll get there.

Good to hear Chris.
Yeah, a radio will turn up, hopefully a good one that you can enjoy and be proud of. Whether you get a good 'Classic', a 'Slightly Second-hand' or even a clearance new one it'll be 'New-To-You'. You can then enjoy it with your new 'Ham' ticket and callsign (I'm sure you'll pass mate!)

It's not all about the foundation fee it's principle, people are right it gets harder to absorb things when you get older, I have just had my 67...you couldn't find a cake to accommodate all those candles lol..

Ha!
I know what you mean mate. I struggled with the IT side of things, learning Windows 10 faff, (I'm a Linux guy but the exam required Windows or Mac!), let alone web cams and online schooling. I applaud all the school kids and teachers who've yet again had to move to online schooling, but I know what you mean with 'young minds' and being able to accommodate it all.
There's plenty of us 'old farts' on here that managed to pass the Foundation, all of us with various abilities. You'll be fine
