It's just not me, I think the rsgb mock is a complete waste of time, the man who told me to print it off who works for the rsgb , I am not going to name him, the mock papers are about much use as a chocolate fireguard

Don't give up both of you. This is the first post i have seen where a member has owned up to not passing but i bet there are a few more. I had no faith in myself when taking the test but my wife had also our own Victor. I agree some questions i got hadn't been covered anywhere i had been looking or in any mock tests i did and i did a lot of them on that app. Chin up guy's and head down you both can do it.

Have you got that app. UK ametuer radio mock tests. I just sat with it even watching tv and did a quick 10 question during adverts. There are hundreds of questions and if you do enough they might spring to mind on the test.

Definitely don't give up Martin & Chris, 20 & 40 meters are still really good DX bands and can be pretty crowded at the weekends even if it's contests it's nice to hear some activity.
I've moved away from London now to the midlands and C.B. in south London was all but dead not withstanding the nets we all know about. I've not got properly set up at my new QTH but a flick around the C.B. channels with the Wilson 1000 plugged in is not looking great. On the other hand I've worked into Europe with a wire thrown up from my garden fence on 20 & 40!!
73's Gary.

So sorry to hear of your exam woes Chris.
I'm with Alan on his point, don't think I've seen anyone post up about failing the exam before. I'd say well done for having the courage to admit it mate.
It's a real downer and can leave you feeling "what's the point" but try not to be too disheartened. You can chalk it up to experience and have another try, anything is possible if you really want it.
If it helps any I'm probably already forgetting some of what I learned.......I mean, why would you ever need to know how high the ionospheric layers are anyway? (In Kilometres too?!?!)
---------------------------------------
Martin, I hadn't realised how many attempts you'd had before mate. If you are serious about giving it another go whilst it's available on line it might be worth checking out the options for those with Dyslexia. You never know mate
All the best fellas,
Victor

Nice point Gary mate and a good positive feel.
Got to admit, apart from the 'skip' in the summer CB is pretty dead our way, but I can tune in any of the Ham bands and there's always something going on. I'm personally glad of the support I got from you lot on CT to becoming a Ham and so glad I finally plunged in
I was overjoyed when our Alan passed his Foundation, especially after the countless emails and constantly telling him he could do it!
I'm sure I'll still be just as happy of hearing others successes.....
....and applaud those giving it another go too!

"worth checking out the options for those with Dyslexia" You get longer to do the test and i think you can have a reader with you. As with Victor i also have forgotten a lot of what i learned. And memory span i think a fly has a longer one than me. Just keep at it and some will sink in without you knowing.

Do not give up, you have put the time in, its like a driving test anything can happen on the day, a few different questions and you would be smiling. On my test I logged in late, lost sound and fell apart with some questions, but scraped over the line. On my mock test was getting 25/26 26/26 and was getting 20/26 before starting the Essex ham course and still just made it.If your interested I have been on the ham bands for 5 weeks and will be posting an update to an original post made back at the end of December about my experiences and contacts, good and bad. This may help WHEN you pass and you will. keep the faith . regards mark 26ct3433 M7RKS

I know it’s easy for others to say, but don’t stress, and definitely don’t give up! Just treat the exam as an authentic mock and part of the training, which better prepares you for the next one.
There’s an old saying (that I can’t remember) that basically says something is worth more if it takes effort to achieve...nowhere could that be more true than Amateur Radio.
If it was worth your interest to get started and study, it’s sure as hell worth a little bit more effort to get over the line.
Far from HF being dead, it’s absolutely coming alive of late.
Best of luck on the re-takes.

Lots of incentive for you there Chris, fantastically positive vibes from everyone for you.
Mark, M7RKS, Look forward to your posting about your new Ham experiences.
In fact it would be great to hear the experiences both good and bad from all our newly qualified Ham members.

Why would they put the actual test questions in the mock exam that you get the answer sheet with?
You are not asked anything that isn't in the foundation study book.

One question they asked in the exam was to do with ladder safety ie:" how far away from the wall should a ladder be from the wall to be safe " well first of what the stupid question it all depends the situation plus I thought it was a radio exam not a heath and safety test which I have done a couple and have past ,and second I had the a Foundation book pre the new one that had just came out in 2020 and there nothing in my early version about ladders and walls ,but when I looked in a new 2020 version the was something about ladder safety

I agree dammed stupid question, three people one to make the tea, one person to hold the ladder and one to climb.. Its OK people saying it's in the book but if you don't absorb it's a tricky one...

Martin I am sure i read a question like that ladder one on the Essex course. Another one on the same subject was why have 2 people when using a ladder.
