The Bath Based Distance Learning team helped nearly 800 students to pass the Advanced exam under the old syllabus. After reworking their training material, the team are now planning their first course for the Full level exam syllabus. The course will run from March to June this year. Students will receive weekly work packages via a virtual classroom and will have access to weekly online tutorials. There will be no charge for the training, but applicants will need to work through a pre-course classroom and quiz to be eligible for a place.
The deadline for course applications is Wednesday the 17th of February. To request full details and an application form, please e-mail Steve, G0FUW via g0fuw@tiscali.co.uk

Last chance to apply for BBDL Full exam online training Wednesday, February 17, is the last day for those who've passed their Intermediate exam to apply to join the free Bath Based Distance Learning Full exam course
Students will receive weekly work packages via a virtual classroom and will have access to weekly on-line tutorials. Students will also have access to one of the remote tutors who will provide feedback and additional guidance when required. There are weekly quizzes to check progress and at the end of the course there will be a number of mock exams.
There will be no charge for the training but applicants will need to work through a pre-course classroom and quiz to be eligible for a place. If the course is oversubscribed, places will be allocated at random from those successfully completing the pre-course work.
Each student will need to provide their own RSGB Full Licence textbook and arrange their own exam at the end of the course. It seems likely that the exams will be on-line with remote invigilation. Advice will be provided as part of the course.
The deadline for course applications is Wednesday 17 February. To request full details and an application form, please e-mail BBDL Team Leader, Steve, G0FUW, via g0fuw AT tiscali.co.uk

The first Full Licence course from the Bath-Based Distance Learning team is now closed for applications. Over 250 people have enquired about the training, including a number of amateurs from the USA, and one from France. The team received double the number of applications than the 100 planned spaces. They have expanded the numbers as far as they can but many will have to wait for the next course. The team are looking to rework their plans so they can run a second Full Licence course later in the year. An announcement will be made when that course is ready for any further applications. Please do not make enquiries before that announcement.

Cheers for the link Mark, was an interesting video to watch.
Still makes me laugh that the older generation, (no ageism here, I'm no spring chook meself!), want to debate, discuss or even decide what will happen in a future that they may not be part of.
Even more terrible when you consider most of the older generation have a 'rose-tinted' view on the past to impress on that future (?!?)
Some great points raised though, fairly well rounded, good point raised about the fact it is after all just a 'hobby' and thoroughly enjoyed it.
All the best, Victor

Indeed Victor as ageing Ham, new blood is always needed like all things to keep this hobby going. As Ofcom told me we and CB radio/446 is under one umbrella and this classed as "hobby radio"
I don't like the petty bickering that goes and is not needed and puts the hobby in a bad light. 73, Mark.

Very true Mark.
It's the 'differences' and 'diversity' that makes the world a wonderful place though. (Be pretty boring otherwise! )
I suppose it's great that we discuss and debate such things as we can't evolve otherwise. So long as we feel like we're moving forward it's all good and if we truly move forward it's fantastic.
The 'open book' discussions were really interesting on the video. As a former electronics engineer I had to 'memorise' facts to obtain qualifications but in the real world simply looked stuff up, (or as professionals would call it....research ), as and when required. I'm finding my Amateur Radio experience to be a pretty similar undertaking in that it would be an impossible task to memorise everything so I simply 'look stuff up' as well.
Pretty much the same as I did as a CB'er or even with my SWL activities.
All the best, Victor

Quite a few years ago, I did all three levels with the team at Bath, led by Steve G0FUW The distance learning didn't exist yet then.
They're a wonderful bunch to work with, if their distance learning is anything like as good as their classroom sessions you're in for a great experience - and they've a very high pass rate too!
Highly recommended.

Since 2011, the Bath Based Distance Learning (BBDL) team has helped nearly 1,000 students to obtain their Full licence. Student feedback is always very positive and the pass rate continues to be well over 80 percent, compared with a national average of around 66 percent. The BBDL team is now planning another Full licence level course. The course will run from the end of August 2023 to December 2023, with exams in January 2024. Students receive weekly work packages via an online classroom and have access to weekly online tutorials. Each student is allocated to one of the remote tutors who provide feedback and additional guidance. There are weekly quizzes to check on progress and at the end of the course there are a number of mock exams. There is no charge for the training, but applicants must work through some pre-course material and complete a quiz to be eligible for a place. This focuses on the ‘new’ Intermediate topics that were introduced to the syllabus in 2019. The aims of the pre-course classroom are to make sure applicants can use the BBDL systems, and to ensure that they are ready for the current Full training syllabus. Each student will need to provide their own RSGB Full licence textbook and arrange their own exam at the end of the course. Advice will be provided as part of the course. The deadline for course applications is Tuesday, 25 July 2023. To request full details and an application form, please email BBDL Team Leader, Steve, G0FUW, on g0fuw@bbdl.org.uk.
