Does anyone know if it's safe to use stereo headohones with a ss6900N radio, I don't want to risk blowing the audio output stage. I am trying to save some cash and keep 'er indoors sweet, as I will need to pay someone to erect my antena which could cause her to go into mode.

I've use normal stereo type headphones in numerous CB radios without any problems to the radio the problem I've had is because the radio is mono the noise/voice only comes out of one ear piece so if want it to come out of both ear pieces you can get a cheap mono plug converter off eBay or just leave it at it is.

You should be fine with standard headphones plugged into your rig.
You'll find the 'ext speaker' socket is usually a 'mono' affair so will only hear from one side of stereo headphones, so if they have a switch for 'mono' you're good or otherwise you'll need a 'mono to stereo' adapter. (That or 'mono' headphones or stick a mono jack on the headphone lead.)
It was more of a historic thing with old high impedance headphones and low impedance speaker outputs but never really an issue except with high power.
Most Headphone output sockets have a resistive dropper so you don't blow your eardrums out on full volume! Keep the volume down and all should be well.
Just don't try it on some multi-watt audio amp speaker output.... you'll blow the headphones!
BTW, this is guidance only....if you blow up your "Dr Dre's" or your rig then don't go suing my ass, it'd be pointless as I'm broke!

Plugging headphones into a speaker out socket is likely to be too loud, at least that's what I found, the receiver hiss is also too loud even on low volume. I made myself an adapter for headphones to use in speaker sockets, a mono 3.5mm plug to a stereo 3.5mm socket with an 82 ohm resistor in series and both 'live' sides connected together and earth side to plug earth. If you want to sacrifice a pair of headphones just for the job (buy cheap ones), cut off the stereo plug and fit a mono one, connect both earths together, then don't use the earth connection and have one 'live' to the end pin and the other 'live' to earth so it'll come out of both sides, I'd also fit a series resistor (47 to 100 ohms) to drop the volume so you're not deafened by accident. It works very well for me and was worth the effort, plus the other half is happy as well. You're unlikely to damage the radio btw.

Hi Tony. I found the below link just the other day which has a similar design of adapter to that which the last poster details that someone has made for this radio. Site not in English but translates fine through Google..

You could always buy these saves all that messing about with soldering and diodes just plug and play makes life more simple really this can switch from stereo to mono https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MONO-STEREO-TV-TELEVISION-HEADPHONES-LONG-LEAD-5M-CABLE-IN-LINE-VOLUME-CONTROL-/323734791689?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
