Have a look at this video and see if it helps. Also any ideas on the "turning red bit" you will see he doesn't understand it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKzzph-sFP0&ab_channel=RadioRev-G5REV

Cheers for the link to the video Alan.
Seems he is having the same questions and frustrations most of us are experiencing on this. (I did the same 1mW input and after my jaw dropped I was just left exasperated!)
His bit at the end and the comments I've heard remind me of Hudson in the Aliens film.....
"That's just f***ing great man! What are we supposed to f***ing do now?! Game over man! Game over!!"
Joking aside it has caused a 'kerfuffle' and I hope enough of one that they finally come to a sensible conclusion.

I think many won't bother as it is not clear enough well to me anyway. He takes the numbers from the box above when the normal one shows red ??? if you get what i am saying.

Yeah, he does say that if it's in red that you have to go further, (measurements etc.), but the box above is the apparent compliance distance.
They've really c*cked up somewhere.
In the USA the ARRL and FCC seem to have got a handle on it.
Check out their calculator link below :-
http://hintlink.com/power_density.htm
It even seems to be better handled by the Australian WIA too.
I don't know Alan mate. As it goes I'm already bored with typical HF activity and having more fun at VHF/UHF so perhaps I shouldn't worry after all.

Victor Funny you should say that about HF i am going the same way as you lol. I have done all the calculations and saved them in a folder like the Rev did so made the effort and onĀ both long wire and vertical plus 2m/70cm all saved so made the effort yes.

Yeah, I did the calculations and it showed that my loft antenna array is no good on HF due to the neighbours converting their loft into a bedroom!
Been surprised at how much fun can be had at 2/70 though mate. Smaller antennas, easier to build & easier to mount, coax isn't an issue with short runs either. OK I managed 2500kms on 1W FT8 but 30 miles on a 1W HT FM on 2m was fun especially as it allowed me to catch up with an old friend.
Gonna have to dig this FT897D out again and see if I can re-flow that processor - then I can give VHF/UHF SSB a go too!

Over the last 2 weeks there has been some distance i tell you on the 70cm band. I think it's been a lot on GB3IM repeater but was amazed at where i heard people talking from.

Yeah, bit of a lift on for a while Alan. I was chatting to my mate on GB3PI when we had a guy from Liverpool cut in! When conditions are right those high frequencies can hold some excitement.

I did try to put GB3PI in my radio but had a problem plus it's 145.750 same as the Prestatyn repeater. Will look into it again at some point. Not sure but somebody local to me said they had had contact on PI.

That threw me back Alan. I remember my old Dad calling into PI and being shocked when a Welshman answered back! Back in the day before CTCSS.
