Solar Flare and Radio Blackout In a sign of increasing solar activity, the sun just produced an M-class solar flare--one of the strongest flares of new Solar Cycle 25. A pulse of X-rays and UV radiation caused a shortwave radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean, and the explosion also hurled a CME into space. Get the full story @ Spaceweather.com.

The Sun just hit Earth with a radio burst New sunspot AR2822 appeared today and promptly exploded, producing one of the strongest flares of young Solar Cycle 25. The M3.9-class explosion hurled a bright CME into space and hit Earth with a shortwave radio burst. Listen to the static and find out what comes next @ Spaceweather.com.

That's pretty much all I ever hear on my radio, sometimes I think I can hear faint voices, but it could just be me going crazy.
But in all seriousness, hopefully it gives us a burst of good conditions, its cool and rainy my way and I'm only hearing the locals.

It’s funny, today I watched a video from 2018 by Fred in the Shed and in it there was a rough prediction for the current cycle. I join the image here.

In all my years on radio i have always used the method of .."or just simply turn your damn radio on and give out a shout".
Less scientific but it seems to work....

Ha! Ha! Spot on Sam.
I just let Mother Nature do her thing and see if she's willing for the day.
Not long ago the HF propagation reports suggested 12m was dead with a 'Poor' report and yet a blind CQ heralded an answer from Japan for me. Then I obviously got 'spotted' because within minutes every man and their dog started calling Japan!
I'm sure there's often times when the bands or propagation is open and no one bothers because the 'scientific reports' say otherwise.
Bit like cancelling a BBQ event because rain is 'predicted' and then it's glorious sunshine all day!
Switch on, tune in, pick up that mic/key/whatever and simply transmit......because there may well be others listening out.

Noticed now, because came up with latest posts ... is not just you, same happens here, sometimes can hear at a band faint voice or like talks at about half freqs of a band... i noticed with 2 radios which suppose to have good sensitivity, example pl-990 at LW band, my new pni6500 done it 2 times at night ... but i think i blame the circuit maybe to sensitive could pick up an interference from a local radio ... to me happens the night time, but seems sometimes predicting it could be good receiving radios catches the next day
