radio - Radio lift Empty
PostSubject: Radio lift   radio - Radio lift Icon_minitimeThu Apr 22, 2021 11:00 am

Good morning All!

Managed to get through to my original home land last week via a relaying of message.

I'm based in Hull, on the outskirts 90ft elevation. A chap south of York was receiving a chap in snowdonia Wales and was relaying messages over. Felt very sombre after that as I haven't been back to Wales for 9months due to the current pandemic...but was contected in that moment it felt.

We were on usb 555 then cqr over to 505.

The chap in York seems to know his stuff and said that in the next week or so the lift will occur on the channels to get us further reach...one question I have is what is that knowledge based on? When do we know when lift occurs?

Many thanks all.

David

There is a high pressure weather system sat over the UK atm so tropo is going to be good.
Also we're coming into Sporadic E season.
Yesterday (4pm ish) while driving arounnd near Doncaster I heard Finland on 10 metres

As Tony said a LIFT is due to Tropospheric conditions and this is a good site https://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html for how things are likely to be , although its mainly for VHF/UHF it holds true for 10/11m to . Scoll down and click the link Tropospheric DX Modes for more info. When the maps get up to the pinkish colour it can be quite hard to tell the difference between TrE propagation and short sporadic E skip ( Es should not be regarded as a lift ) as TrE can produce signal strengths over 5 S points what they might normaly be for paths 100>200 "ish" miles.
