Not used either of them but what about a long wire.
I get good results with my 20m long end-fed and it's only around 4Mtr high might be 5.
Tunes up on most bands well up to 80m.
Just a thought.

Not used a Bazooka but my t2lt is great on a 10m pole. I think Alan makes a good point, I have used an end fed wire placed around the top of my fence panels about 6ft high going around the garden. It was a bit NVISey, lol. But it was good to get on 80m . I had heard since that a counterpoise wire following the same route on the floor below it would have gotten me better results but I can’t be sure that’s true.

Haven't done a bazooka, but a vertical one looks pretty similar to a t2lt to me which is basically a dipole, so shouldn't be much difference between.

You didn't say if you can mount vertically or not. If you can then they'd have to be on a plastic or fibreglass pole which would be about the same size and height of a end fed half wave.. a silver rod or a99, so can't see why neighbours wouldn't be happy with one of those. If you're doing on the flat side I would go with a long wire as already suggested.

because I don't use HF amateur bands and I have done but I just prefer 11m chat , I have a intermediate callsign and made and use various wire antennas .

bazooka - bazooka or T2lt ... MLKT1nkb
I've been using a double bazooka for a couple of years (see photo) and I've found it to be excellent for skip. I live in a flat where no outdoor antennas are allowed so I tried various indoor ones, both 1/4 wave vertical & 1/2 wave horizontal and this seems to work best. The signal-strength is slightly lower than a vertical on RX unless I'm talking to someone who is also on the "flat side" and it isn't brilliant for local contacts (good for approx 20-30 miles) but for DX it works very well and I have no problems contacting all European stations. When adjusted / tuned for SWR the length is just over 16 feet / 4.8 mtrs so it will easily fit in a loft or spare room.

You can buy them ready-made here (for various frequencies including CB) if you don't fancy building one yourself.

Great , thanks .

I bought mine from there I think but was over a year or 2 ago stumbled across it in the shed and gave me a idea ...

Will be set up as a inverted V on a Ali pole and as it's fairly short will be ok and keep the rest of family happy without loads of wire over the garden .

Thanks Matt for the link for clarification. Looking around the net I have come across a number of different designs that call themselves bazookas. A couple of links below for vertical ones..
http://www.iw5edi.com/ham-radio/3777/the-vertical-bazooka-antenna
https://simonthewizard.com/2018/01/27/t2lt-vertical-bazooka

Just to confuse things the simon the wizard page calls the t2lt a a t2lt bazooka Question

Hope you get some good skip contacts on it. You should do well with it outside as I'm using similar indoors with relatively low power and it's doing pretty well at the moment, just had one into Italy before logging in here Smile

bazooka - bazooka or T2lt ... Receiv10

Excuse the naff picture but this was dust tonight , treaded coax but around 5m short of Messi and paloni ultraflex 7 , I do believe in good quality coax and the braid I noticed reduces my noise slightly. will order some more coax and I need to add a pole on left side on the shed .

At the apex it is around 25ft above the patio height .

Yay, another localish person with a flat side antenna. Will listen out for you Smile Mine is about the same height but indoors, so I really think you'll do well with yours.

my qth is shrivenham so not too far from you , As living with parents now has come to my parents attention lightening and a metallic pole up ... he wants it taken down but if lightening hits locally it will take the majority of electrical equipment out nearby .

I don't think earthing the pole would help !

I built a double bazooka and whilst it worked it was basically no different to a wire dipole except it cost more. It's basically a waste of a good length of coax as it offers no advantages over a wire dipole.

Just make up a simple wire dipole using speaker wire or whatever and set it up as an inverted V. Other than the centre pole if you use grey or black wire it'll be basically invisible. It'll work well with just a 16ft high feedpoint.

Oh no Matt Crying or Very sad I'm far from an expert on grounding, so hopefully others can offer advice. If the mounting pole is not sunken deep into the ground then grounding it properly with a rod would be a good idea. Also you can get coax grounding inserts to attach a grounding wire to to help ground the antenna, but unsure if that would affect operation that type of antenna.. I haven't tried grounding my V.

If the intention is to create a RF ground a ground rod or even sinking the mounting pole into the ground does nothing. A ground rod is good for lightning and static but not for RF.
