Subject: SS 7900 wont connect to Windows 10 Tue May 18, 2021 1:19 pm
Hi every one, I recently got my self a new CRT SS 7900, being very pleased with it, I also put it into export mode. Got a PC programming lead, only to find that attempting to program through Windows 10 all I get is an error report to do with wrong connection. I did a Google and found that this will not work UNLESS I use Windows 7. I downloaded the latest Prolific drivers done a reboot and still the same error message..
I did also use the compatible way round but same problem.
So do I really need to have to go to the trouble of buying another Harddrive to Install Windows 7 to get this done?
Or is there some teck wizard out there that can find a way around this?
Thank you for any help on this....
Mike.

The first thing I'd try is getting an old version of the Prolific driver, that usually works as long as you select the right com port in the software. Windows 10 will try to update the driver so you have to tell it not to if you want it to keep working, or you'll have to reload the old driver everytime. The official Prolific driver won't work with a lot of cables because they use an unauthorised chip, apparently.
Personally the old driver works for me on Win 10, both tablet and PC, from here: https://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php
Your other option is VMware like Virtual Box, it makes a virtual machine, install the software then you can load any other OS you want onto the same machine without affecting the main OS, there's plenty of videos on YouTube for the 'how to'. Windows 7 can be downloaded from the Microsoft website if you don't have one, licences are cheap now too, or you can use the command prompt hack to get a legit copy for free (shhh)

I wouldn't bother with a virtual as it will work in 10. Just make sure you install the driver before you plug the cable in. Not had any ss for some time but somebody will be along with more help.
