What would happen to are radios if we had a EMP in the uk. what parts would be fried what radios would fair better. would a surge protection extension lead stop this from happening or would that not cope with the colossal surge.? would grounding your radios make any difference.?

I wouldn't overly worry about it Darren.
We've had similar discussions on the forum before including a 'Carrington Event' debate.
If it helps any the following link is quite a good read and for once on the internet actually supplied with references!

You could watch Suspicious Observers on youtube, he monitors space weather each day and news on the physics side of things in space. An interesting 5-10 minutes a day into sun spots, cme's, birkland (sp) currents and lots of other stuff I don't really understand. Another one is "TamithaSkov" the space weather lady who includes mentions of what are going to be the effects to Hams in her forecasts of space weather.

All my gear survived all the biggest events in the last 35 years. And it also survived very near lightning events.
