Afternoon all. I've read a few posts relating to clusters of CT members (and other dx groups) around the UK using channel 14 mid band as their calling / network channel. I frequently flick around the mids on AM especially when the short skip is open but very rarely hear other UK users Lucky for me there is a monthly net in the South East held on CH14 AM by the AMC dx group which is popular but otherwise AM use is quiet.
My question is should we as an international dx organisation promote Mid Band Channel 14 for AM calling throughout the UK to enable more users a better chance of making contacts?
Apologies if this question has been raised before but following Marks (CT2036) Sunday morning AM net the other week it was apparent that there are quite a few people who would like to use the mode more and maybe an acknowledged / confirmed calling channel would help to concentrate numbers.
Thanks for taking the time to read this Dave CT700 Sussex

This sounds like a perfectly reasonable proposition, after all this sort of "Band Plan" exists on the amateur bands and gives a focus for people to aim their particular radio mode interests toward like minded operators.
In the early days of CB channel 19 am was always recognised as the standard calling channel so something similar for people to go to sounds ok to me.

I remember those days well Glenn, when the bands were so busy that areas/towns had different calling channels, (apart from the old 'trucker' 19 )
Saved being interfered from the hundreds of watts breaker next town over with his squelch turned up! (Crocodile or Alligator stations, all mouth and no ears. )
We used 22 this way and you'd find yourself changing channels as you drove around different areas. Usually there was some 'polite' person that would tell you that you were on the wrong calling channel!
You could blast through all the channels nowadays and not hear one person.

We could definately do with a calling channel in Bristol. 19 seems to have become a the place to ragchew these days. I also think 14 on a.m. for calling would be a great idea ;-)
