Evening all ladies and gentleman,
would anybody be kind enough to let me know if a 'CT' call is limited to UK residents or is it open to all ???

Regards Ady

Hi Ady,

Welcome to Charlie Tango.

CT call signs are indeed available to all. If you're on planet earth, human and enjoy radio then everything's good. callsign - Callsign Request (Issued) 1f44d
We do indeed have many international members here.

All you have to do to get a call sign is simply ask, but there are a couple of requirements....

Just click the 'Profile' button at the top of the site under the Charlie Tango button, fill in your First Name, Country & the town/city you live in or near and you'll be all set. Smile

After that call signs are usually issued most days and it's just a case of keeping an eye on this posting for when you are allocated a call sign.

Hope that helps.

All the best,
Victor

Appreciate the quick reply Victor, been messing around on 27Mhz the last few weeks due to little SSB or CW activity on 10m, save FT8 (not my thing) and pleasantly supprised to see so much activity on the band.
Certainly great fun working stations in the UK i normally work on 40m !!!

No worries Ady, you're more than welcome.

Yes, the old CB bands can be fair old bustling especially when a bit of propagation kicks in and always good to hear.
Tried the FT8 thing myself a while back, a bit like shooting fish in a barrel to me and when the bands are 'dead' there's always a bit of FT8?!?! People do tend to use voice much more on the CB bands. callsign - Callsign Request (Issued) 1f44d

Nice one on filling out your profile, you should get a call sign any time now.

Always handy for the CB bands, (where we can't use our Amateur call signs), and I must admit it gives me a bit of a buzz when I hear Charlie Tango numbers on those frequencies. Smile

All the very best,
Victor

Exactly Victor,
worked some guys in the UK and Ireland the other day, 'whats ur callsign' ? they ask........
My reply in all honestly 'just listening around the bands' they think at first its a windup, YEP i believe you, your in France, till they realise the band conditions change as does my signal !
Either way, checked your profile on QRZ.COM and you know what, my first handheld was a Trio TR2400, what a great radio, then the FT290R. Got into CB back when my Father was given a Channel master rig by a client when i was about Ten years old and i was hooked.......My uncle with a GW8 call gave me a AR88 ex-military receiver and that sealed the deal for a life playing around with radios !!
Got my B class license in 1982, i was 16 at the time, later passed the 12wpm morse test and got issued my A class GW4 call in 1984, since then have lost count of the number of countries i have worked from and the number of callsigns i have held !
Best thing is, 27Mhz is and always will be a favourite of mine.
The only 'digital modes' used are WSPR on 10m, the band is open more than most people think and on VHF MSK144 or FSK441 to work Meteor Scatter on 2m or 6m.

Yes, unfortunately CB is still known for it's wind-ups Ady and a call sign does come in handy especially if they can verify you which is pretty much what Charlie Tango is all about - simply helping each other enjoy their radio no matter what the band or frequencies.

Yeah, got a bit of a collection going and proudly displayed on QRZ, (as well as here), most of it down to the sheer generosity of fellow Hams and radio enthusiasts. Plus I can fix stuff. Wink

I should've done my licence back in the seventies, went for another go in the 80's which was a bit of a farce with students dropping out and courses cancelled. (Think I tried three courses that all got cancelled!) Life got in the way after that but thanks to some encouragement from members here at Charlie Tango and gratefully to the scores of volunteers that made online examinations/training possible during lock down I finally got there. Quite happy with the M7 at the moment and you can do a lot with 10 watts!

Great to hear about your radio background and history, always love hearing how people got involved in radio.

Just noticed our Mr Gary Wilson is swift tonight, that'll be your spangly new CT CB call sign right there.

Enjoy it all Ady and if your conversation is as good on-air as it is an online one I look forward to maybe catching you on the bands one day....CB or otherwise. It's all radio and should all be fun. Smile

All the very best to you,
Victor

Thanks to both of you, Victor your right Garys is on the ball, NEW CT callsign already allocated, what can i say, thanks to both of you.
Certainly look forward to speaking on HF, wherever, i go on 40m SSB now and then, only with a dipole, i took the 2element yagi down, either way working into the UK on anyband is not a big problem from here, its possible on 2m SSB (done it with 50w/have got 1kw amp just in case !!!!)
Thankyou again both of you.............
