I'm running horizontal for all my HF activity including 11m but then those signals can bounce off the ionosphere at any polarisation. (Verticals tend to be favoured for low take off angle but similar properties can be found with horizontal antennas.) The only issue I have is with 'local' signals as they're usually running vertical antennas but not an issue with 'skip'.
Then again my antenna is too low for 40m and lower being NVIS in nature down there but doesn't stop me banging into the USA or Caribbean on the old greyline.

I shall keep an eye on propagation conditions Glenn.
I've got a few CT members in my Ham logs now but not too many on CB so here's hoping we catch each other.

I installed my new acquired President Mckinley 2 (fully opened up) and Sirio 145 antenna for mobile applications (still got the 4000 for static-mobile). I managed to work into 2 Div Arkansas whilst mobile and SWL'd a station in London working Florida and New York State. I could hear both sides of the conversation, too.
A bit more tidying up of the installation required and fine tuning of the antenna and radio settings.
73s John.

Great to hear about your new President rig there John and sounds like it's giving the goods.
I didn't get much time on air as tending a pretty awful cold at the mo then away from the radio room awaiting on parcels. (One of which was a little new radio for me. )
Did hear 14 division FM/EU later in the day like they were locals on this new little rig (Jopix PT-31) so looks like conditions were ripe yesterday. Looking forward to a little bit of 11m fun with this rig that's so tiny it could almost fall into the cracks of one of the bigger sets!
73, Victor

Bit of a mish-mash mess this way today, Euro chatter AM/FM in and out, SSB not as good as recent days (when I mostly missed it!) and strangely someone sending SSTV on 27.701 a little while ago.
I hope everyone else fared better. (The day's not done yet so I'll persist a bit more. )
Happy this new little rig picks up as well as the main rigs on the quickly knocked together inverted V.

Hello Victor and Glenn,
Cheers, Victor. I am well pleased with it. Very compact and feels well built. The receive sounds good on all modes.
Hope you feel better soon.
The Jopix looks like a cool little radio. It is amazing how compact modern rigs are. My CRT Sace U is comically small and makes good power for such a small radio. Ideal for modern motors.
Take it easy, Buddy.

The skip was banging in, when I left work this evening. It was flat later on, apart from the Superbowl.

I've spent most of the day exploring the options on my new Yaesu FT-891 radio. I was in for a huge shock when I saw the menu, it’s like a spaceship compared to a regular CB radio. Working with all those filters, noise-free, is a real pleasure.

It looked liked a nice morning for the skip today here in London. I got the radio setup but its all silent, nothing at all. It might pick up later.

I'm glad the horizontal is working well for you.
I always wondered about horizontal on 11 meters as everybody uses vertical but I guess it doesn't really matter with DX. I'm quite compromised where I am so I can live with horizontal all day long.
Local FM isn't that interesting so it doesn't matter too much about not being able to go vertical.

Hello All,
11m wide open today. I heard a Scottish expat located in Dallas, Texas. I tried shouting back, until he gave his working conditions. A three element beam, 1kw and a Yaesu FTDX10..... I quickly decided I was 'urinating into a prevailing wind' with my 20w into a mobile whip. Lol.
I was struggling to make contact, despite hearing lots of stations, so, I 'poured some coal on the fire' in form of my KL203 amp. It did the trick, with contacts into the Americas, Southern and Eastern Europe.
73s and good dx.

I do about 12 watts SSB which is about all I can do without the SWR peaking with the antenna being indoors plus I have to be mindful about coming out through my neighbors TV speakers so low power for me and I still get all over the place. It was all mostly Europe today I didn't hear much American stations at all. One problem I have is when I put my call sign out and three other stations go right over the top of me at the same time so it can be a challenge to be heard being the weakest station out there. I'm just happy to finally be able to make contacts on some form of HF because I was beginning to lose hope that it would be possible given my situation.
