So, last night I bought a magnum 257 thinking it would work like my 6900n. The problem is I can't find the UK frequencies on it. Is it a eu model or something? Can it be programmed to work on uk frequencies? I've searched Google and found nothing relating to programming it. It's a lovely solid radio (better built than the 6900) and I'd love to keep it but unless it covers all the bands I need it will be back up for sale. Can anyone help me with this please. Thanks Jamie 163-CT-309

Isn't that the one with a frequency readout only. What frequency does it show.

It can either have frequency readout or channel display. It's switchable. I can get euro/cept no problems, they are on band E. I just get the feeling this radio was imported from the eu.

Not sure on the exact model you have. But if you do a search for your model and put "mods" at the end you will find the mod to expand the frequency range. It is normally very easy to do pressing/holding buttons or removing a jumper inside the radio.

I think that has already been done, I have the blue screen model with the separate reset button and jumpers.

I have the frequency range, but the bands don't line up with uk 40, they line up with cept/eu instead

They will end in a 0 or a 5. You have to move the cursor or whatever to under the number you need to change ie the end 2. Hard to explain. They are made as a 10m amature set so no 125 endings on the frequency. Have a look on google for videos that should point you in the right direction.

Similar, but mine isn't the hp version. It's basically identical I think.

Not really mate, I think it's been brought over from the eu or something. It has the cept/eu band. I can access muppet band by using frequency shift though that's not what I want.

It's only the last digit you change, then you just scroll through the channels until you reach 27.781 which is close enough.

Yes mate, but not the .25 at the end. It's close enough though.

Yes close enough. Many run on the 1 mainly the older radios but there some like yours. Is the output about 45w on yours can't remember. I had the Optimax i think it was some time ago looked exactly the same as that one and was 45 or 50w output.

Well I think I have it figured out. There is no 40ch uk band but there is a work-around. Thanks for your help Alan.
