I can buy a new Dynascan AT-5555 for what seems a reasonable price. Now i've read Alinco has discontinued the AT-5555 and i understand the CRT SS6900 is the only radio of this type which still has new versions coming out. So this is probably a case of new old stock. What would you do?

Hi Karel!! If it were me, then I would invest a little more and buy a CRT SS9900....a lovely radio.
Cheers,
Simon.

Hey, if it's a very good price compared to the 6900 then I'd go for it. I've just seen though that the 6900 is now on a new v7 as as the 'nv' model with a few extra features over the 'n' model I have. Probably the better one out of the two to go for if buying new and price difference is very little.

The 9900 is a bit out of my price range and i'm still thinking retirement is about 1.5 year away and i'd like to learn CW when i have the time. The 6900 and 5555 are the most reasonably priced sets which still include CW. I'll see what my wife has to say about it.

That sounds like a good plan chap.

Bought it! Now just waiting 7 days for delivery. Are there any considerations, or standards, for programming the 6 available bands? I'm Dutch, so perhaps the EU CB band needs to be programmed, what about the available rest of the bands (or the 20 channels left after the CB band)? And what are your preferences for the other settings (SWR shutoff if above 10:1 seems a bit high to me).
