PostSubject: Made a 27meg antenna   Made a 27meg antenna Icon_minitimeSun Feb 27, 2022 9:07 am

Finally got round to sticking up a dedicated ant for 27megs.

Knocked up a T2LT in tea break at work, the one with the 16turn choke.

Taped it to my Spiderbean fibreglass mast yesterday and lashed to a fence post
with the choke about 7foot off the ground, SWR under 1.6, quite pleased. Made a 27meg antenna 1f60e
Picking up a bit of noise but no worse than I get on the Hustler 6BTV.

Only heard a few locals at about S5, no idea if there is anyone near me, I guess not.
Not like the old days when it was wall to wall.

Hi Mike,

Those coax dipoles seem to work well for many and well done getting the SWR down low. Made a 27meg antenna 1f44d
(Some struggle getting them working with a low enough SWR.)

I agree, dead as a door nail around my way on CB frequencies too but once that summer Sporadic E comes in it's fun all the way! Smile

We do get the odd bit of 'out of season' action though with the USA booming in earlier in the week and I was only SWL at the time with a bit of wire slung out of the window. Seems Peter Parker VK3YE saw some 27MHz action the same day down in Australia.

CB is definitely not like the 'old days' but I'm grateful we don't have all the 'kids' mucking about like during the early 27/81 legalisation. Wink (Wasn't the boom everyone expected with even the likes of Rumbelows virtually giving away CB's with any purchase of a TV!)

Nice to hear about your antenna work though and hope you get a chance to maybe work a bit of DX or find someone local on it. Some areas are really busy with CB activity but it's a bit of a pot-luck chance depending on where you live.

All the best,
Victor

I have a triple bazooka antenna from wire antennas, no choke needed SWR can be adjusted by changing the length of the ends and to be fair I haven’t needed to adjust it as SWR is below 1.5 and that’s just hanging from a gutter, just seen Nevadaradio have Spiderbeams back in stock so need to grab one of them.

Hi Victor.
The ant is not to high and surrounded by houses here.

Back in the day we had an original Silver Rod on a 16foot pole that did well.

Not expecting to much as we are quite close to the South Downs.
Signals better from the Sussex Weald, the coast has 600feet of chalk in the way.

Still it brings back memories of the old days before ham license.

Yer, the Spiderbeam masts are brilliant, I have the heavy duty ali one as well, the cobweb is on that one at about 7metres. They are quite expensive but you get what you pay for.

Also looking for a spiderbeam, as i've just build a T2LT from RG6 coax, combined with a 12th wave matcher. Very pleased with it!

The T2LT is a fine antenna. Many commercially made antennas are based on the same design. Basically an end fed half wave with a choke. Works fine, lasts a long time.
