Sirio short

Is the sirio 5000 pl meant to have a short in it?
I check the swr and its really high so i go into columbo mode and unplug the antenna from the swr.
I test the plug and the multimetre says its shorting so i strip down the whole lot and test it.
I test the thirty foot length of cable that has a short to find out there isn't a short so i test the 145 magmount and that's got no short either.
I test the sirio antenna inside connector and the outside connector to find its shorting.
So is this antenna meant to have a short with it having a coil? any info would really help columbo i mean me

Hello Master Virus, from memory I think these antennas will show a DC short. Remember there is a difference between the way RF and DC behaves.

DC grounded.

A DC grounded antenna is any ground plane type antenna that has a DC path from the radiating element to the grounded side. An easy way to identify one is to meter it with an ohmmeter. They will read a short circuit, or very close to it. A more common name is a shunt fed antenna

It was just when i checked the part that screws into the magmount it bleeps with the continuity test and there was resistance.
But if that's normal like the Antron 99 then everything is cool.

Look at the circuit diagram of say a 9:1 Unun and you'll see it is a dead short. Yet to RF it isn't.

Thank you for taking the time to reply i really appreciate it. When you test the inner and outer cables you're not supposed to get a bleep so when you do its a little concerning.
But radio was never simple!
