I am visiting the UK from The Netherlands and on Saturday afternoon I was able to have a QSO with a German station even with my 4 watts Albrecht AE2990AFS handheld! It just proves what you can do when the conditions are right!

Well done Paul.
It's those sort of opportunities that makes radio as exciting as it is.
Then again Mother Nature can be fickle but here's hoping the next solar peak bears fruit as anticipated.
All the best, Victor

Nice one Paul. Surprising how far you can get on 4w or even less when conditions are right. Many years ago i used to contact a guy in Australia from my qth on Anglesey North Wales over and over. Also did most of the world on 4w. Strange thing radio and so unpredictable with i.

2002 Jan to April on FM mids, i got to the Uk on 4 w radios, a Cobra Night Vision, old York home base rig and a Danti radio, it was bright green thats all i recall about it, yes 4w FM was crazy in that year, i got South East UK very well, will have to dig out the photos, to have a look at my set up in 2002.
