I wouldn't worry Alan, I'm at not a dissimilar height as you but 60 odd miles away from the sea!! (Deep, dark hole that is Bedford.)
Luckily HF signals seems to be bouncing off the sky OK.
I posted this map a while back now when I was playing around with VHF/UHF contacts seeing where my line of sight was. Turned out I had a gap in the hills just SSW of me where I could get a signal into the Tring 70cm repeater the next county over which would then fire to my old friend in Milton Keynes the other county over. Up and down counties because there's a big hill between us!!!!

Wayne A lot of mountains round this part to get over. But shows how strange radio is my m8 lives near the top of one i can see from my shack but can't talk on HF to him only 2mFM.

No need to apologise Alan, I think most would rather see such a useful resource posted a hundred times over than never at all. It certainly came in handy for me trying to figure out where I could fire line of sight transmissions to.
As for your friend with VHF contact but no HF the following articles might help a bit :-

I was looking for one of these maps the other day so many thanks. I can remember using one many years ago when I dabbled with computers. I'm only 20m although I can see for miles east to west.
163m at my coastal retreat.

A great resource, I've seen others but this one is by far the easiest to use. Many Thanks

Always gone by OS map and the 50foot contour runs just to the west of my QTH. GPS seems to validate this so thats ok by me.

A couple more maps you might find useful but you will know about them but just in case.
