hi what is the situation on contacting russia /replaiing to russian   cq call thank you

As it's not Vladimir Putin himself but a fellow Ham I have taken no exception to contacting Russian stations.

I'd hate it if any hesitant thoughts were placed on British Hams due to past atrocities....no bugger would talk to us!

I have never stopped calling or answering Russians.

Hamradio should be above politics, religion etc.

I have worked many of the DPR stations as well, even through they do not count.

As said above they are fellow radio ham's with a microphone in there hand not a gun.
Strange you should post as i had a visit from a local ham yesterday and he watched as i clicked on one in ft8 and asked me this same question.

There was a letter in the lastest Radcom but IMO the author totally missed the point.

Unless we are banned I will carry on regardless.

Don't worry Paul you definitely haven't offended anyone.

It seems that the consensus amongst those of that have answered is we are only too willing and happy to contact other Amateur Radio operators around the world irrespective of any current political events.

Just as it should be.

Div 50 calls come over to Finland and Fins seem to reply and talk about normal life,
I sold a cb radio to a Russian a few weeks ago and he was so happy to get a radio cheap for his camper van,

For decades relevant governments and authorities have been pointing nuclear missiles at each other without so much as a say so from the innocent civilians that live in their shadow.

They could well take a page from radio enthusiasts who only want to point a beam antenna and emit radio signals to contact fellow human beings who all reside on the same ball of rock.

I will never demonize a whole country of people innocently going about their daily lives due to the political madness of their apparent 'leaders'.

I hope such poor examples are never portrayed upon us.

my red line was quite quick, wheres your red line ? more russian fighter jet incursions into Uk airspace ? Attack on UK / European cable infrastructure ? State TV with computer simulations of effect of nuclear bomb off the northern coast of UK creating Tsunami wave ? Tsar nuclear bomb landing on London ?

I'll live without russian qsos from me and so will russian hams

I'd like to point out the specific section regards 'Trolling'.


Having an opinion on any subject is luckily something that we are currently free to do in the UK unlike the ordinary Russian people who face repercussions if they so much as speak out.

However we do have rules on this forum for those individuals that simply go out of their way to cause as much upset as they possibly can rather than intelligently discuss, debate or even give simple input.

You may well have seen or heard the western media stories of the atrocities incurred against ordinary people of the Ukraine, yet amongst those apparent reports you barely hear of casualties or fatalities about the so called 'other side'. All of the people involved are victims to this political madness as is usual in any confrontation with ordinary innocent civilians paying the price.


If I can give the simplest of consolation by making radio contact with an ordinary person who by simple chance of birthplace and current political views happens to live in so called 'enemy' territory then I will do so with a friendly and open hand.

We are after all residents of the same planet where my radio transmissions can freely travel across it irrespective of so called borders or political views. The propagation path doesn't suddenly drop off at the Russian doorstep.

You of course are free to not do so and join the throng of statement makers alienating a whole race of people regardless of their feelings, thoughts or apparent involvement or indeed add to the whole 'war machine' by making sweeping statements. I'm sure you have a counterpart somewhere in Russia blaming the UK for actively feeding the war and will accordingly refuse to communicate with you also.


You have made your feelings known, you have even gone on to make some rather outrageous predictions and drawn as you mention your own 'red' line.

It has been your choice to make an 'enemy' of a whole country's worth of people but please do not make an enemy of the people here on the forum.

it is very clear you like to make qso with russians and that you your right.

I go with my gut feeling on it not rules... it is allowed if you like it

nuclear simulation in north sea has already happened not a wild speuclation.

I know a lot of hams are military styled people, not all but they like khaki and outdoors, pretend soldier types the mililitary elemtn it is even in branding of equipment the miltary edge not born yesterdya. so some in russia will be military just look youtube, wearing combats gear testing hamradio in bushes.

Anyway you are comfortable so that is all that matters free world for us.

if you like russians qsos that is your choice. at least i am not the only one, people are split on it, i go with my gut as i mentioned I respect others views.. free choice to make from a finnish ham

it seems odd to call for a ban on something that is a massive problem in Eruope right now, and signs are it will spread not reduce
