Subject: Mini stinger mag mount. Thu Nov 28, 2019 4:27 pm
So i will be installing a mini stinger mag mount for cb on my car when santa has been,
Now my question is will this run to listen only on my pmr radio with the correct adapter?
Meaning if i tune it to suit my portapack cb is it possible to put pl to sma connector and go straight to my baofeng to use for rx only?

Hello Matt,
The mini stinger is designed to work on 27Mhz so that's where it will be resonant. You could plug it into a VHF/UHF radio for RX only but it will be far from at it's most efficient.

Hi Matt ...
If your magmount has a 3/8ths fitting then £6 (or thereabouts) will get you a dedicated PMR whip, so you could TX as well as RX

I have tried a couple of the UHF/VHF whips available, both made a noticeable increase in performance but I bought a Nagoya NL770-R for just a few pounds more with gutter mount and cable and it outperforms the others by a long shot. I currently have it clipped onto the mount for my old hi-gain tv ariel in the loft as a makeshift home base and would recommend it above the whips.
