First Time I have been the new boy in decades ???? CS Application (Issued)

Hi Guys,

Well it feels kind of odd applying for a callsign, I was around on ‘real CB’ back in the 70’s when we just chose a ‘handle’ and  I was known in the East Manchester area as “RedRum”. Back in the day even my father, (RIP) was on the air with the handle “Silver Beard”, bizarrely, a handle that would now be quite appropriate for me .

As soon as the Great British Government, in their infinite wisdom gave up trying to beat the CBers and instead killed the hobby by introducing a much inferior system, I like almost everyone else gave up on it. But my interest in radio never died, so when I had to take a 2 week enforced rest in Oldham Hospital in 1982, I used the time to study for the RAE and obtained my ‘Ham’ licence a few weeks later. In the intervening 40 odd years I have explored most aspects of the hobby, with the recent years operating DMR which the purists will decry as ‘not real radio’ .

I have decided to get a CRT SS 9900 to access 10m and 11m both from home and to use on a tabletop when sat outside our Motorhome. 

So I hope to touch base with some of you in the near future when I receive and get used to using a new callsign.

Many of us have returned to radio after a 30 to 40 year break.
Also some of then went for there ham licence after returning and finding silence lol.

(Call signs were always in use on CB/11m for international DX groups such as the 'Alfa Tango' group of Italy fame. The "26" identifies you as heralding from England, "CT" as the group and then your member number giving an international DX'er some details about you much the same way as an Amateur Radio call sign does. We don't have restrictions, subscriptions etc. for it's use and although handy for such contacts you are free as ever to use what you like with your CB activity. With a world wide membership it does all come in rather handy especially with propagation conditions we have experienced in recent times only getting better as we ramp up the solar cycle. I hope it serves you well and you enjoy the Charlie Tango ethos as well as forum facilities.)
