Had an electrical safety test carried out today, there was a fault with one of the breakers, so power was off for about 5 hours. I thought it was an ideal moment to try out the car battery I had bought about a month ago. Turned the 9900 on and nothing, no signal reading or anything, I lowered my squelch from its normal setting of about six and hit scan. Blow me down, that's not exactly what I said, if I wasn't getting the US and European stations coming in, the QRM was nothing. Some of the noise seems to have been generated by the breaker, which was slowly cooking itself due to high resistance.
Will do some digging as to what is causing the rest of the QRM over the next couple of days, for now am just happy to have some juice in the cables. Something I plugged back in is causing some noise, but not as bad as before.

Stick ferrites on all wallwarts anyway. Both ends, wind on at least 8 turns.

I found the culprit, and it had been staring me in the face all along, it was my computer. Am now back to hearing all sorts and am happy I eventually found the issue. Am so used to using the PC and having it on for everything, I use it for music and all my entertainment as I don't have a television set.
