Your truck, is it just the roof thats fibre glass? Not sure what your truck is, whether it's an HGV or pickup I'm thinking if it's an HGV and its a metal cab with a GRP roof then a magmount (or gutter mount if there is a rain gutter) with a foldable aerial (or DV mount)

Its an HGV Daf XF106 and has a GRP roof, no gutter. The truck comes fitted with an antenna on the back wall which is Ok for CB but I want an antenna for DX Im thinking of a long wire that could be strung from a tree or the truck and which packs up small.

Sotabeams.co.uk and buy one of their telescopic poles. Get a couple of bits of wire and make up a dipole antenna, setting it up as an inverted V using the pole to support the centre. Simple dipoles are great for DX.

Crikey, I've only just posted a very similar answer elsewhere on this forum.
But here goes again....
Have you thought about a T2LT antenna ?
Very simple wire antenna, that you can hang in a tree, or use a non metal telescopic pole to mount it on. The telescopic poles can be found on ebay , search for 10/12 metre telescopic flag pole - about half the price as the same pole from an antenna supplier....
Loads of plans on the internet / youtube about how to make it. Or purchase a ready made one on ebay.
I've had excellent results using both the T2LT and a DRX111 5/8 wave wire antenna.

I now have a HWEF wire. I also have a window cleaners telescopic brush, minus the brush. Extends about 6 meters, mounted on the back of cab. With the option of standing it in the towing eye on the front.

Looks like your best bet. A couple of our DAF CFs at work have CB antennas fitted, one using the manufacturer's mount, another using a lip mount on the wind deflector brackets and neither of them work worth a damn when I've been driving them. If you get 2 miles I'd be surprised. I've noticed the one using the manufacturer's mount has had a couple of different CBs fitted so no idea if there's an issue with SWR and I doubt they've checked.
