| Thanks for the reply. I am using a 20amp supply but have tried it on another one and a car battery but as i say doesn't squeal every time. When i power up with no mic no squeal. I dont think it's the standard mic i'm using as i works ok no hum or anything. I did make up a cheap standard mic using only the three main leads and all was fine. As i say though it doesn't do it every time only when i don't expect it. I was told that it is a known problem on some SS9900's. Any idea's ? Many thanks for the reply. | |

| The radio should work properly and you're not happy so phone the place where you bought it from and they should send you another.

| I have the same model and don't have anything like that happening, I run mine from a heavy-duty battery so it can draw all the amps it needs, you could always give that a try and see if it is a power issue. Another thing I would suggest trying is some switch cleaner which you will be able to find in hobby electronics stores, you would be amazed at the amount of seemingly undiagnosable faults it can cure at times. | |

| Hi there, It's only a couple of weeks old and i dont really want to break the suppliers seals. I have tried other power sources with no success. The only way to stop it is to power up without the mic but this can be inconvenient plugging in each time. I am at the moment using the standard mic, but when i use a replacement mic using just the three wires all is ok. Can't believe it's the original mic though as it doesn't do it every time and the mic is working properly. Thanks for the comments. | |

| I think i know what's causing it because it's just happened to me and you mentioned it catches you out and it's done the same to me. You also mentioned it only happens when a mic is connected and doesn't happen when one isn't connected. I think the reason why it squeak's is because some how the talkback is being activated and the mic being close to the rig is causing feedback. I turned my volume down fast when it happened to me because the squeak was that loud it made me jump and nearly dropped the radio. If it's a common problem then maybe there is a bug in the software that activates it sometimes. Made me jump though. | |

| Hi there, Thanks for the contact. From what you say though doe's seem to make a lot of sense and something i never thought of. I've took advantage though of the suppliers kind offer of returning the unit for a checkup and if necessary replacement so fingers crossed we'll see what happens. Once again thanks for the contact. | |
