FT 950 no transmit FT8

I am having a devil of a problem with getting my FT950 to transmit on FT8, CAT seems to be working in JTDX, but I hit tune and no transmit. I have reset the radios menus and entered the settings to enable CAT control, yet still no joy and audio is set up correctly. There is output from the radio when I hit the tuner, so it must be some setting somewhere that is off.

I just noticed TX comes on, no power output.

Hi Mark,

Sounds like no audio is going through so worth checking your settings, levels, connections, etc.
(If running Windows you'll find it notorious for mucking about with your default sound output!)

I run a separate USB sound interface and point to that from the WSJT-X software so that Windows doesn't touch it. (So no annoying Windows notifications on my transmit! )

Occasionally a restart of the software is required especially if I'm lazy and put my laptop into 'sleep' mode rather than powering it off. (Screws about with the PSK reporting too!) JTDX might differ....but I doubt it.

Keep plugging at it, you'll get there in the end.

Thanks, Victor, nice to see you back in action, looks like the radio is a dud. Sometimes transmits then doesn't using the mic. a tap on the case sometimes cures it, looks like it's going back.

Sorry to hear about the troubles with your rig. Have you tried a full reset just in case?

(Modern rigs are so full of computer tech nowadays the old "turn-it-off-and-on-again" practices come to the fore! )

Hi Victor, have done a full reset and everything except FT8 is now working. I have ordered a new sound card as the USB one I have doesn't seem to be outputting to the transceiver, when I hit transmit no sound is generated, it could be the issue.

 I have sound, just tested with a pair of headphones, the radio just isn't transmitting power. It switches into TX mode bu nothing out.

Good to hear that at least your rig is alright Mark and USB sound cards are much cheaper/easier to replace!

I hope it's all as simple as that and you get some digital action in real soon.  

(Took me ages hooking up my ancient FT757gx for FT8....had to build a sound interface for one and internet searches for my particular radio came up empty! You'll get there in the end much as I and probably many of us did after the initial setup headaches.)

Finally got it running, an obscure Italian forum saved the day. Nowhere else seems to mention you have to put the transceiver into data packet mode. It's taken me the best part of 2 days to get this up and running, now to make some 20m contacts.

The radio itself seems a lot more capable than my FT450D, I am certain it is pulling in more decodes on FT8. It has more buttons and lights than Darth Vader's briefcase.
