No worries there Ray, I'm sure Dean has made a grand job of utilising whatever is available to him and congratulate accordingly. Smile

Look forward to your reports Ray and the banter is always enjoyable. South Coast PMR net report - Page 6 1f44d

Fingers crossed there Ray. South Coast PMR net report - Page 6 1f44d

There's been quite a bit of tropo going on recently with the GB3VHF 2m beacon bending my needle at times! (Usually S1-S2 on the dipole.) Not that it amounted to much with little activity heard my way on VHF or UHF.

I'll have another listen out as you just never know. Smile

Sounds like the perfect time to break out the Baofeng and start doing the windmill Impressions.I’ll be on high ground with the big tactical Abbree fitted and I’ll even give a call Ray on Cough Cough Watts (Chinese Import) and see if you can hear me from sunny south London.
Should be well worth ago geezer…🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hi Tom

Up in Radio Corner, people have been seen doing windmill impressions and funny walks to try and find the handy sweet spot.
It would be good to hear you on PMR and it would be another net for your collection.

Sadly I heard nothing Ray,Could have been the conditions,Or my position who knows. But I do know after an hour of one arm windmill rotational exercises and the combination of the cold and the rolling in fog,I wimped out and scampered home like a big girl..😂
Next week I’ll try a slightly different spot or even slightly higher and dress more appropriately as that fog got right up my dress..(It’s a joke)
Cheers Tom.

Same here Ray and our Tom is considerably nearer to you than I. Waggled the beam like mad with some quietening of the background noise but unfortunately no signals heard.

Definitely signs of a lift though with a couple of more repeaters banging in my way that I don't usually hear on 70cm. Here's hoping you got some French contact as the lift did slide that way during the evening. South Coast PMR net report - Page 6 1f44d

Hi Tom

So no amount of waving 👋🏻, standing on 1 leg, walking across the heath or raising your dress 👗 did any good?
What a shame 🙁 but on a positive note, you got out and had a go 👍🏻 and i have my fingers crossed 🤞🏻 for next week.

Hi Victor

Waggling a beam is a highly technical thing to do and should only be done by trained amateurs 😀😃😂🤣
We didn't get any French sadly and the only lift we got was heading out towards the West which was proven by Paul PIP 57 from Bracknell calling in stronger than normal.

Thank you both for trying 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hello all and welcome to another episode of Ray reviews the South Coast PMR net

or

"Carry on Radio operator"

The net was on Monday 17th of January in the year of 2022
It was on channel 14 or 446.16875MHz and started around 8 o'clock🕗
My location was a busy Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in East Sussex and I was using the TYT TH9000D and my 8 element beam.
Radio Corner was lit by a wolf 🐺 moon 🌕 but was cold and by the end of the night the grass had signs of a white frost on it.

Now you have an idea of what it was like, on with the list of stations that called in, heard and worked by the net.

CT 1829--Dean--Ashdown Forest--East Sussex & mobile 🚗
CamperVan Man--Nigel--Ashdown Forest--East Sussex
TK 08--George--Tonbridge--Kent (using his new rotator)
KP 441--Steve--Ditchling Beacon--East Sussex (still high after his 11m contact to Puerto Rico)
CT 2072--Steve T--Wrotham Hill--Kent
CT 4362--Chris--Reigate--Surrey (welcome to the PMR net 😀)
CT 3466--Ray C5--Ashdown Forest--East Sussex & mobile 🚗
CT 456--Nick--East Grinstead--West Sussex
CT 1033--Chris--Tonbridge--Kent
CT 2236--Dan--Wrotham Hill--Kent
??????--Bob--Swanley--Kent (welcome to the PMR net 😀)

Then a loud CT 4029--Tom--Blackheath--Southeast London called in (great transmit but not so good on the receive)

CT 1074--Mike--Devils Dyke--West Sussex
??????--Paul M--Vigo Village--Kent
PIP 57--Paul--Bracknell--Berkshire (louder than normal due to some ducting from the West)
TE 032--Adam--Southend--Essex
OM 001--Graham--Burgess Hill--West Sussex
CT 9484--Mark--Haslemere--Surrey
??????--Steve R--Near Rochester--Kent
LT 69--Sam--Northolt--West London
And me, CT 2290--Ray--Ashdown Forest--East Sussex (with crayon :crayon: & parchment:scroll: )

That's it for my list of call ins

Thank you all who called in and an extra thank you to those out in cars, on hills in the cold.

Topics of conversation ranged from Victor and his posts, how to watch your beam spinning in your attic when your below in the radio shack, trying to make contact handy to handy while doing a "ministry of funny walks" round the car park and the often heard cry of "my mic has come out!!"

That concludes this weeks episode

See ya next time

Well that was a pleasant surprise you could hear me loud,Just a shame I was struggling on the RX.Next week I’ll try a slightly different spot or climb the next tallest tree…lol
Joking aside I may even invest in a Dual band antenna for the car,Because stood in the middle of the heath the other night the old climate control and heated seats were calling..🔥🍑🔥
Cheers Ray until next week geezer..

Brilliant stuff there Ray mate, another great net and report. South Coast PMR net report - Page 6 1f44d

Takes a special touch and skilled dedication to 'waggle' a beam don't you know! Very Happy

Can't believe our Tom made it through but didn't hear you guys....I think the "more Watts Igor" push may have made him an alligator station on the night. Wink
(Just kidding there Tom, well done mate.)

Ah! Webcam! Must be a webcam in the loft? Hang on....in a dark loft? Ignore that.....stupid idea. Maybe. South Coast PMR net report - Page 6 1f60b

Honestly Ray it's always a pleasure to hear of your nets and hearing that everyone has such fun with them........ministry of silly walks - Ha! Ha! Can picture it! Very Happy

I think even with a stacked yagi array I probably won't get you lot but always worth a try and maybe one of these days I'll catch Tom and he can convey a QSO. I'm sure he'd make a good repeater. South Coast PMR net report - Page 6 1f44d

The very best to you and everyone on the net. Keep up the great work and keep enjoying yourself.

Thanks Victor,It was just a nice surprise to be told that I was heard and to be honest it was the first time I’d used that Boafeng radio.I was doing something 50% right..lol
So a quick read up on the manual will be done before the next PMR net just to make sure everything is set correctly.
I’m still waiting to hear the ISS as it passes over because the kids think I’m lying to them…😂
Beam me up scotty….

Maybe a "beam waggling" competition should be considered for the next Buxton Bash 😄

Alligator 🐊 Tom says it all 😄

Webcam in the loft is not so far from the truth.
Try a cheap camera 📷 from the Interweb and repurposing and old phone ☎ and ta-da 🎺 remote night vision of the dark loft and beam.

I think everybody, sometime or another, has done THE WALK when using a handy on the net, even when they have been indoors!

What a day that would be, relaying a message from South of London to North of London via Tom.
This feels like a "Challenge Anneka" moment 🤔

Cheers Victor

That's my list of the night and what a busy night it was.
Thank you all who called and sorry if you tried and were missed
If you see a mistake or I have left something out, let me know and I can correct/added it.

Topics of conversation ranged from racing mini's on grass, the gritting lorries  going past, Dean going old school and turning the beam by hand, the many deer 🦌 seen in, on and around Ashdown Forest, giving up smoking 🚭, my reports on the CT forum and the 1 way contact between Steve KP 441 and Adam TE 032.

That about wraps things up, so please like 👍🏻, dislike👎🏻 or leave a comment if you want.

Ray I fear that CT 40?? Was me and I can almost guarantee it.
So an upgrade has been purchased and a new magnetic antenna for the car with proper coax and no RG174,As I think a length of damp string has less loss
Until next week geezer…

Hi Tom 🐊

I did wonder if was you but then thought "no it can't be" because your neighbour from Shooters Hill, CM 01 Jason, was loud and clear.

Looking forward to making contact next week and range test the new set up 😉

Tom 26CT4029???

I know what you mean. I have a mag mount and boot lid mount that over the years have had the coax shortened due to door pinching 🤪

The following day I realised I had forgotten to put any cakes or biscuits out for the after-party.

Hi there Nigel, pleasure to see you on the CT forum. South Coast PMR net report - Page 6 1f44d

Ray told me a little about you, don't worry as all of it was pleasant. Smile

From all accounts a 'very interesting and amiable chap' and great to see you here. I hope one day to get to speak to some of you boys but in the mean time congratulate you all on your radio interests and activities.

All the best,
Victor

I'll make sure I have biscuits ready in future, just in case!
