Hi John. Welcome to the group.

I am not in that area of the UK so am not placed to recommend a radio club or foundation course there. That said, I did a quick net search and found the below club which seems to offer good information and allows you to sit the tests in the "old fashioned" / traditional method...
wmrc.co.uk/education.htm

Maybe other more local members here can give more info on that club and recommend, or not.

Many Charlie Tango members who have sat and successfully passed the Foundation exam, have studied via the Essex Ham online course which is free (the exam still has a fee). Exams can be taken at home whilst being invigilated remotely by RSGB volunteers.

Any questions, fire away. There's a lot of people here from many walks of life that will be able to help you.

Neal

As Neal said go for the Essex ham course online.
You don't have a set time/day to do it you just study when you can.
Pete and the gang are very good on there and will answer any questions you might have.
Also it is free but do buy Pete a coffee.
