Subject: Mini 8 csble Sun Sep 15, 2024 11:43 am
Hi I'm running about 30 meters of mini 8 from rig to antenna, but getting loads of noise. I have turned of all house power and used a 12v battery. So I think the noise is coming from the coax.
Would it be better if I used rg213? The noise is making listen to distant stations a nightmare.
I can't move the antenna closes to the house, I'm going to make up some ferrite filters.
And would adding an earth rod help?
But any other advice would be appreciated.
I get noise up to 9 pound on all modes FM Am bust usb and lsb only about 5 pound of noise.
I'm using a mass yellow star 5/8 antenna and a crt6900n radio
Thanks

Ferrite filters is a good plan.
In the meantime, if you have enough coax, try coiling up the coax half a dozen turns of six inch diameter as an air choke as near the rig as you can.

If you still have the noise with the mains power off and running on a 12v battery then it's from next door or something close. You can try chokes but changing the coax i don't think that will help that much at all. Are you in with next door might ask them to knock off there power for a minute just to see. Any overhead power lines or solar panels close by.
