this is Simon from Germany, Duesseldorf the main capitol of North-Rhine-Westfalia in West Germany.
I´m operating CB-Radio since I was 13 years old.
I have started with a hemp radio in 1992, Stabo SH 7000, because my parents did not allowed an antenna on the house.
They even didn´t wanted that I have contact with such crazy people, they said.
But my passion for the waves was even stronger.
So beside that hemp radio I used to listen to mediumwave und shortwave radio, especially pirate radio stations.
I also was sending reception reports to those pirates and got QSL cards.
I had a world receiver from Sangean it was a varity of a Siemens RK 651, with it I also could listen to police and fireworks radio.
I used an own build long wire antenna which was also grounded.
After some years the hemp radio went broken and then I lost interest to this hobby.
The SWL hobby also paused after starting an education as communication electronics in the company Siemens AG when I was 16.
With 23 in 2002 I started again with cb radio, thorugh a contact to a radio amateur I bought a Dragon SS 497 (Albrecht Export Radio).
I started my first steps in SSB and also on 555 and had my first international contacts to UK and Italy.
After changing the location I paused the hobby again and did it just some times in holiday in croatia, then I lost interest again.
After observing Web-SDR Twente in the internet I started with SWL again, and bought an SDR receiver from UK, SDRPLAY.
Then I bought a magnetic loop from Grahn GS2 and had great success with it.
Also I bought several SDR radios, like Degen 1103, XHDATA D-808, Malahiteam DSP 2 and some older radio from the 90th, like Sony ICF 2001D, elta 3569.
My newst SDR radio is Qodosen DX-286, a great little device.
In 2019 I started with prepping, and with the idea to be prepared for a blackout situation I bought a small cb radio set again.
It was a k-po k100 and a lill will antenna.
Then in 2020 in the summer I tried it out, I thought cb radio was dead.
But I was successfull and surprised that still stations are active.
So my passion for the waves haven been waked again.
That time I was not possible to operate from home, so I bought a mobile pole, long wire antenna and a CRT 9900 and operated mobile and then 1 month in croatia on the hillside. My ex-girlfriend is croatian, so we have been there on every vacation.
Then in 2022/2023 we last there for 7 months and I hade contact with my fantasy station call sign 328-13SS497.
You may realize where the 497 comes from
It was my first SSB radio. I had contact to nearly all continents, expect asia.
I even had a contact with australia to 43OP153, which was the farest connection for me until now.
So since 1,5 years now I have moved the location and I´m very glad that I´m able to have a 18 meter high pole from spider beam in the garden.
I´m using the Gainmaster as a re-build as long wire on the pole.
The antenna is grounded, I have better conditions with the grounding.
6 months ago I was able to buy a YAESU FT-710 to have also SDR Waterfall.
I love this radio, it´s a joy working with it.
And finally I was able working with asia.
Next thing will be a stand microfon M-100 from Yaesu.
And now its time to get a real Call Sign from a good dx group like yours.
