Hi I’m Graham I like radios for communicating with people I don’t know, listening to nets and other radio things like experimenting to see what conditions are like and how far you can talk with minimal power
I’m asking for a CB call sign as I don’t really get the handle thing - i've joined here as I’ve asked Santa for a thunderpole tx and hope to be able to do some talking on it out and about on foot and mobile. I’ve loads of questions but I think it’s the right handset for me for four reasons 1 USB C charging (I can charge from a power bank) 2 Noise Reduction Circuit (seems like a blunt hammer but it’s better than nothing) 3 compatibility with Kenwood speaker mics 4 The ability to easily use 29mHz 10m FM as well as CB
I build my own antennas and already have one ready for 29 MHz

Hi Graham and welcome to CT.
I just looked at the Thunderpole TX specs. It does look like a great little rig. It says the frequency range goes up to 27.99125 mhz, so you might be disappointed if you intend to listen to 29mhz 10m FM (or tx if you have your ticket) Or perhaps there's a way to expand it.

Hiya - it has the option to select various tables d a long you to RX/TX up to 30mhz
Truthfully I’m mainly interested in the 29mhz fm side I’m pretty sure that with a 1/4w ground plane hanging off a 10m mast I could activate a few Parks/ Peaks with it
What I’m struck by with all the reviews is how people are surprised that a 27mhz transceiver doesn’t do distance when its used with the rubber duck antenna or a vertical whip 1.3m long and no counterpoise (I mean it’s called the 11m band take the hint.) That said we’ll see how it goes when I get it but I’ve already built the antenna centered in 29.200 and I can’t wait to explore CB
