hey all i was scanning through having a listen last night about 8pm and on 433.250 could hear american voices so i listened for a while longer and one said he was oregon, then another said alaska, just as i was about to tune off a scottish guy chirped in from the uk, i understand a bit about propagation, but it was so clear very little distortion, then a couple of clicks up the dial were some liverpool accents barely audible. was it propagation, or repeaters or something else, is there any simplex activity on 70cm or is it all repeater, been looking on web to try and learn but its a bit contradictory sometimes.. thanks.... experience is priceless.

I don't know anything about these fancy internet linked repeaters they have on the amateur bands these days, but 433.250 looks like a repeater output frequency so I'm pretty sure that will be the source of it.

Hello Howie,
All D.M.R and some Analogue repeaters are internet linked all around the world so you can talk to people in places like America, It's not propagation I'm afraid.
73's Gary.

I'd not even twigged about Internet linked stations. Makes sense with the lack delay between responses.it makes me realize how much technology I have to catch up on. Thanks Gary

A digi repeter with analouge capabilties in Fusion / DMR / D star or a internet gateway by hubnet or could even be a analouge repeter linked to Echco Link .
Not my prefered operating if ask me thats why not bought a digital radio .

I'm with you Matt.
I looked at the digital mode & echo link technologies recently and although I'm sure it's a very useful technology, it just ain't radio for me. Opening another repeater the other side of the country to your local repeater frequency due to trop-E on 70cm's is exciting. Chatting to a CBer in another country during a brief opening is also exciting. But to me, this new stuff is a bit too much like making a VoIP/Skype call
Useful I suppose but just not my cup of tea. Horses for courses.
