Anyone know of any groups in the area south of Leicester?

Hi Colin,

I don't personally know of any groups or nets your way but do know that we've had many members from the Leicestershire region and surrounding areas. (Whether they are on air or not is another matter.)

It does seem that we get a lot of people that only 'listen' for on air activity when in reality they should be transmitting even if it only appears fruitlessly at first. (If everyone simply 'listens' no one knows each other is there!)

A 'net' can start as simply as just two people scheduling a regular chat on air and inviting anyone listening to join in. Before you know it several people may join in with the on-air activity and a Net is born.  

It does however require a fair bit of dedication as it can be slow to grow to start with, require regular activity sticking to a frequency (or there abouts) as well as a regular day/time schedule. Then you have to get over those individuals that want to spoil such interests by whistling-up on SSB, keying over on FM/AM or discuss certain subject material that may cause offence. (The latter being a sure fire way to destroy any Net.)

From that alone you can realise that those dedicating their time and efforts to hold such Nets certainly do deserve a thorough pat on the back.
We have some fine individuals amongst us here at CT that certainly deserve praise for their Net activity.

Hopefully someone else can chime in with details of a Net or group near you or maybe even indeed be in radio range of your area to get in contact. You never know, maybe you'll start some net activity of your own.

No 'groups' that I know of in this part of the world, although there's a few breakers in Leicester town there's not many in the south of the county. I live in Wigston so I may hear you, interference permitting, myself and a few others hang out on ch14 UK FM and you may get some luck on ch19, there's usually a few folks chatting on ch22 at night as well. I've not heard many people your way though, there's a couple of breakers around Earl Shilton but I've not heard them for a while. You might hear some people on ch27 USB mid block, around the Coventry area but I struggle with them.

Don't give up, CB's not so popular now I know, which is a shame, but you could encourage others in your area to get some kit and have a play perhaps. Other than that there's SSB DX'ing.
