Good day everyone, my Name is Mike. I currently reside in the Northern part of Saskatchewan Canada. I've been around since the mid 70's and my Dad was a CB'r. I have some fond memories of those days including the Saturday night Fox hunts although if I remember right they were called rabbit hunts, anyway, those were some great times I will always remember. My Dad had an old 40 channel Realistic base station radio - I am unable to recall the make but it had SSB. I used to talk every night in the early/mid 80's with a mate who's father was a CB'r. Through the years I've always had that tickling nostalgic itch to get on the radio again. In early 2019 while cleaning out an old run down shed on a mates farm I came across an old FRG-7 receiver that belong to his father. He had no use for it so handed it off to me. I was pretty excited, it was in really great shape with just a smidge of dust about it. Cleaned it up, checked the board and caps, gave it a wiggle here and there then fired it up. Was a beautiful thing seeing the lights come on and the crackle of static over the speaker. Since then I've been listening to DX from Europe, USA, Brazil etc. It's been really fun. I started learning to get my amateur licence because of that FRG-7. Radio's here in Canada are pretty expensive, actually everything is expensive here but I managed to scrape together enough to grab a President Ronald 10/12 meter radio - which I modified for 11 meter - on sale. My first antenna was just a 16' (two 8' wires) dipole strung along the peak of my house and run to the FRG-7. The Ronald is connected to a 102" thin steel tube on top of a 40' over the air TV antenna mast using the TV antenna as my ground plan for now. The plan is to get that massive TV antenna down and convert it into a yagi for 10/12 meter ham. But for now the 11 meter antenna is just pushed up through the center of the mast on a 1" copper tube. I tuned the antenna by raising and lowering the pole until it gave me 1.5 SWR on 20. Anyway, that's my story. I did a few searches for 11 meter call signs in America but was directed here, so here I am. Hoping to one day have the money to get what I need to make some proper contacts with the lot of you guys!! If there's a proper registration for CB call signs in north america that you guys know of I'd be happy to go there for a call sign, but my family is British so this seems the right place for me to be!

Excellent! Thank you sir! And thanks to those with the welcomes! I'm over excited about this, it has been over 35 years since I last flapped my gums over the air! Where I am located CB is dead and I am about 200 Kilometers from the nearest large city and 45 kilometers from a smaller city but driving around that place with the Ronald trying to spark a conversation on any channel been fruitless. Haven't had a single local contact in more than a year so I basically just listen to skip coming in from the USA as far down as Fort Worth Texas for CB. Every now and then I get some scattered CW on 10 meters. But most of my listening is done on the FRG-7. Until i source out some good cheap (as in cost) coax and get a better antenna up I'm probably not going to get out there and be heard, but I'm looking forward to that day. Thanks guys!
