I’ve been checking out a few videos and I came across one about a CRT 2000 which states you can change the wattage from the usual 4 watt, up to 40 watt.

My question is, how far would you get on 4 watts compared to 40 watts? Or is the wattage not about distance?

I know it’s a bit of a noob question, but it’s been so long since I had a rig I’ve forgotten most of it.

Martin, (Nubster), has gotten it pretty much spot on mate.

You could do all the maths, or rely on experience......some of us old farts have got our fair share Wink

40 watts, rubbish coax, poorly setup antenna, buried in a city at the bottom of a valley....

4 watts, running mobile in a car, perfect SWR, sat atop a 800ft hill....

The second setup will win every time, (and why a lot still run mobile Smile)

So yeah, pretty much "More watts Igor!" doesn't always help.

But that's the fun of radio, learning all this stuff.
Unlock your high power should you wish, (I'm pretty sure it's only the CRT2000H model that can do the higher power? Sure that's what the 'H' is all about but may be wrong), and see how you fare.

Never consider anything a 'noob' question either, all questions are good. How else would we learn?

All the best,
Victor

As our Victor say's it is the H version that does 40w but that is only 12v not the 12/24v version that one does 15w max i think.

Cheers Guys, I'm feeling like a fish out of water at the moment, but I'm sure I'll get there.

I'm just look at a set up now, so fingers crossed I should have something soon.
