Hi Guy's - new member as of a few minutes ago
Wasn't sure whether to use my first name or a made up one, so went with my name. I live in Hull - I found this site by accident whilst looking for something else, An answer popped up from some of the guys on here, so I thought I'd join up seeing as the answers were from knowledgeable radio users and were spot on.
I used to have AM radio's back end of the 70's then nothing for years, then bought another radio about 10 years ago (Cobra 29 LX EU) but the sound was a bit naff on it and kinda used it less and less then forgot all about it after about a year - However... since then I have taken my Ham Licence and am now a 2e0.
I've tried several radio formats these last few years - FT8, SSTV for example and messed around with balans, unun's, efhw, random wire etc. but by no means an expert in anything radio - I just have a go at things and see how they work out - or not? lol
I've just bought a morse key 2nd hand (Hi Mound MK-703 twin paddle) and hope to at least venture in to morse at some point soon. I did buy a straight key with built in oscillator about 4 -odd years ago, but was all over the place timing wise and gradually practised less and less as I wasn't really in the mood most of the time when I got home from work but I've bought another key as already mentioned as my radio has an electric keyer built in and I'm just waiting on a dummy load to arrive. I would welcome any tips if anyone does morse here?
I have spoken to a few CT members before in a net up here, that was about 2 years ago when I bought a Lincoln 2+ and had a bit of enthusiasm to go mobile - used a 7 foot firestick and once got from Hull to Liverpool... only just with 2/2 signal report and managed a few mins rag-chew before fading out.
Anyways, that's all for now, I realise I do go on a bit lol - I would like to request a CT call sign too.
Cheers - Lance.

Hi Lance,
Welcome to Charlie Tango.
Good to hear about your adventures in the radio world. (I do enjoy reading a good intro ) Nice to also hear the 'google-bots' are doing their job pointing out the wonderful resource of Charlie Tango and it's knowledgeable members.
Morse tips? Could do with some myself! The last time I had another bash at it I download the G0HYN Morse tutor app to my phone. The idea was to have a dabble as often as I could with a phone app seeming an obvious choice. Problem is 'often as I could' landed up being not so very often so I haven't got far! (I think a bit more dedication would go a long way.)
Call signs are usually issued most days so hopefully you shouldn't be waiting too long.
All the best, Victor
