Anybody know anything about this. How it works and how it's collected on say a £200 item. Read this but still not sure. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/changes-to-vat-treatment-of-overseas-goods-sold-to-customers-from-1-january-2021/changes-to-vat-treatment-of-overseas-goods-sold-to-customers-from-1-january-2021

Hi Alan. I have had lots of motorcycle/trike parts imported to the UK from all parts of the world & i've had to pay import & tax on some of them depending on the value of the item. What i've found is this. When the item reaches this country, it's transferred to ParcelForce Worldwide normally at Heathrow. ParcelForce pay the customs duty tax etc., then send you a letter with a code in it & the cost of the import & tax &, of course their fee for handling the import. When you get the letter it tells you how to go online & pay them with the code in the letter. Once that's done they send out your item for delivery. Hope that helps mate. Bob.

Not always the case, sometimes i've had parts that have slipped through customs with nothing to pay at all. The last part i had was from the US & was $90 i paid in total £18.81 for the UK import etc. Most times the ParcelForce handling fee is about £11 so working on that the import & tax was only around £8. Good luck! Bob.

When you want something from abroad just make sure you add the VAT including that on postage and the handling fee. I used to bring in loads of stuff from USA when it was $2 to the pound, made things quite cheap and as above the odd item would slip through without VAT.

I know what you mean mate. I wasn't sure about it all either, (been clobbered in the past for USA purchases!), the .GOV website was as clear as mud and helpful as an ashtray on a motorbike!
Glad you're all sorted though. 'Bout time I got me FT757 fixed and see if that web can catch my transmissions into Wales.
